I guess I misunderstood the point of your comment.. I thought you were saying the vacuum mechanism could move the plate.. I totally agree, that replacement wire is too rigid for this application.. The original wire was a braided design using numerous very fine gauge wires.. A 7 strand wire will soon fail from the constant flexing..

In the distant past, that wire could be obtained from STANDARD IGNITION PRODUCTS. I don't know about now.

When I worked in a parts store we sold Standard Ignition Products. I remember that wire. I went and looked, and indeed that wire is still available.

Re: No spark

I am having a good time with my father trying to figure this out. Thanks for all of the posts. We will be working on it next week.

Re: No spark

We got it going, thanks for the help.

We changed the condenser in distributor, put the old one in and started getting fire from coil. I am assuming we had grounded out somewhere with the wire, but it worked. Then realized the distributor was 180 degrees off.
It started and runs. Lifters tapping so I need to go through the tightening procedure for those again. Small leak in lifter cover.

After looking at pics and other posts in this thread, we figured something was up with the negative wire from the coil and little wire on condenser. I say we, but my Dad figured all of this out after I forwarded some pics and posts from the thread. A few of the posts referred to the distributor, so we checked it and confirmed it was bassackwards.

Yes, we have oil pressure, one small oil leak on lifter cover, was able to tighten that and stopped it. Need to adjust lifters.

He said the engine was rebuilt, that is why the parts are new. I don't think he was just replacing parts to try to find the problem.

Re: No spark

I appreciate all of the posts. I should have posted a pic, then we could have figured it out sooner. RichardJ said he suspected the distributor was installed incorrectly. That's where the problem was.
Thanks again for all of the posts. I have had a few on here and have had all of my questions answered.
