Congratulations on the house Christian!
Definitely great that it comes with a garage as well.

Thanks!
Thanks! Thanks! Doing good! Hope you are too! Quote:
Thanks! Thanks! Not sure if SETN is in the cards for this year. The house stuff is probably gonna have to take priority over finishing up some truck projects and going to shows this year. Thanks! A garage of some sort was one of my main requirements while looking for a place to buy.

Re: Frankentruck
After all the work Frankentruck put in on Friday, apparently the Delphi fuel pump installed a couple years ago didn't enjoy it. I had to replace it again on Sunday. Of course, the one trip I take to see my girlfriend without bringing my tool box is the one trip the fuel pump dies
Got it fixed and was able to make it home though.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Unfortunately, I do have some bad news. On May 4th, I embarked on another trip to my parent's home so that I could get all my clothes and such and officially move into my house. Just a few miles into the trip, I shifted from 1st to 2nd and apparently the shifter hung up. When the clutch re-engaged, crunchy noises ensued. I don't know if I bent/broke a shift fork in the transmission, or if I chunked a few teeth out of second gear, but either way, I pulled over immediately. Once I finally got the shifter un-stuck, I was able to limp Frankentruck back to my house by just using 1st and 3rd. I haven't had a chance to pop the side cover off since I went to the beach with the fam the second half of last week. Gonna try to find out what exactly happened later this week.

. I also have the standard 3 speed I removed from the truck, so I have parts from 4 transmissions that I can use. If it ends up being missing gear teeth, I think I will just put new bearings and seals in one of the other overdrive transmissions I have instead of trying to take two to make one

Re: Frankentruck
Over the weekend, I got the transmission pulled out and figured out what broke. Second gear is toast. I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to just replace that gear or if I’m going to swap out to a different transmission. I have another overdrive in the garage, but it’s completely unknown condition wise.

Re: Frankentruck
Ouch, good thing you have a replacement and don't have to go looking for one.

Re: Frankentruck
I ended up deciding to use one of the other transmissions I had picked up over a year ago. I swapped side covers to use the one that already had the correct levers. I swapped the electrical components for the overdrive since those were still working great. Got it up in the truck last week and have driven it a couple times on short errands after work. Seems to be working ok, but it is whining some in 1st and 2nd gear. Don't know how long this one will last, but hopefully until I can get Penny going again.

Re: Frankentruck
If it isn't whining in 3rd (direct: 1:1), it's the cluster gear bearings. If the case is damaged, it can probably be machined and repaired. But that'd be money....

Re: Frankentruck
I still have another complete transmission on standby
![]() I will probably just end up rebuilding the one that broke 2nd gear with a NOS gear instead. I just needed something to get me by until I get Penny back on the road. I may also just keep accumulating parts to eventually rebuild all of the ones I have so that I have a steady source of overdrive transmissions

Re: Frankentruck
Frankentruck has been put to work helping me get my house in order. New bedroom furniture and a couple trips to recycle the cardboard. Also, a daily driver stint while the actual daily was down for repairs. Yeah, the transmission wines and leaks a little, but it appears it’ll work long enough for me to get the other one rebuilt

Re: Frankentruck
With as much as you drive this I do wonder if a T5 would be a worthwhile swap for you. I think you had thought about it before? Can't remember.
The 3spd OD is cool though. |

Re: Frankentruck
I definitely have thought about it before, but with the amount of trailers I end up pulling, I just don’t feel comfortable with running the T5. A stronger 5 speed could work if needed. I just really like the 3 on the tree, so the overdrive version works well for me. I will keep collecting enough overdrive parts to keep one good one in the truck and another good one on the shelf whenever it’s needed.

Re: Frankentruck
Frankentruck just keeps on going. Up into the mountains, down to a nice farm, and near a waterfall to then carry my wife and I into our new chapter together. Here’s to many more miles of adventures!
