The 3/4 length headers for a Chevelle worked on my 67/68 frame. They help keep the exhaust tubing tucked above the bottom of the frame rail as well for plenty of ground clearance (I don't want anything below the frame rails & have 3" exhaust). Full length 'truck' headers will typically be lower than the bottom of the rails.
I had to trim about .125" from the pass side frame rail to ensure the same clearance as the drivers side. This was using OE 69-72 engine towers as well. *EDIT* In my opinion, for a 'street' driven truck/vehicle w/a mild big-block, the better clearance of 3/4 length units outweighs the 'full length' headers possible performance benefits.
