That can be extended fairly easy. I bolted a breaker bar to a length of cannel iron with my beam torque wrench. Not something I use very often, but works well.
Good to know. *thumbs up*

Re: Dana 70 questions

Just an FYI... Just got of the phone with "Wheeler fleet" they had both the "loaded backing plates" part #s: FRN452RK7(Right side) and FRN452LK5(Left side) for the full float 14 bolt with 13x3.5" brakes. I needed the backing plates and they were between $96-115 by them selves ...so for about $190 (each) and it comes pre-assembled with shoes/hardware and new wheel cylinders... Don't get me wrong, I know they are making their $ but 4 bolts and bleed the wheel cylinders type convince is worth it to me. Besides backing plates alone + new brake shoes was about $300. So factoring in new hardware kits and wheel cylinders...

I figured as much, the reason I say it’s an awesome deal is I absolutely hate dicking with drum brake springs and shoes. Bolt er up, bleed it down, adjust the shoes and you’re ready to go.

I honestly think it is worth it as well, I hated putting the hardware back on when I rebuilt the brake shoes on the current Dana 70... It was such a pain AND I ended up having to do it at least a dozen times because I kept getting one thing or another wrong, or not positioned correctly... *facepalm* so the fact that these loaded backing plates cost near what it would cost in parts alone and save me the hassle and headache... Makes it definitely worth it.

Re: Dana 70 questions

Well it has been too long and I haven't given any updates yet, the truck hasn't really gone anywhere or been on the road much a few trips here and there while I try to finish rebuilding the new to me 14 bolt. I got all the backing plates, new hub bearings/seals etc done, then realized there was a low growl out of the pinion bearings. Got that taken apart AND... it has been sitting in the garage since some time around turkey day... *face palm*. I've got the pinion taken apart but can't get the inner bearing race off of the pinion. I'm probably going to need to employ a professional. I've also never reset a pinions back lash so there is that too. Wish me luck as I may just load up the whole thing and make it someone else's problem (have them put it back together... Correctly).

What are you guys(s) opinion on crush sleeve vs the "eliminator" version, the master rebuild kit I got came with a crush sleeve

Re: Dana 70 questions

I think the eliminator kit is easier to setup. The beautiful thing about the floating 14 bolt is how easy it is to setup in general. Shimming the pinion support is a breeze.
