How many miles on your stock motor without major work?
How many miles are on your stock motor(s) without any major work being done.
My truck has 60k on its 402 and one of the crank bearings was turned and shimmed about 15 years ago per the previous owner. Although yes that is pretty much major work I guess.

Re: How many miles on your stock motor without major work?
The engine in my truck was rebuilt back in the early '80s. It probably got a timing chain at some point, as I vaguely recall my FiL saying something about it. After we inherited it, I checked for slack, but it's fine. Been about 100k miles since then. It's at about 218k now, and holds ~25 PSI at hot idle. Doesn't knock or smoke, and uses a quart of oil in about 1500 miles.

Re: How many miles on your stock motor without major work?
With my friend who had my 70 since 1978, the 3 prior engine all had around 160Kon them when he replaced them. Originally a 307, then 327, then 350. The current, 4th motor,, is a Jasper 350. Truck is about to turn over 500k.

Re: How many miles on your stock motor without major work?
Dad's '97 S10 has around 355k on the unopened original engine and trans. he bought it in '99 or early 2000 with only 7k on it. He's had to do an intake gasket (dexcool problems) and something with the timing chain messed up a couple years ago (don't remember the exact details) so it got a new chain, cover, and crank position sensor. It's had one AC compressor replaced with an OEM/AC Delco compressor, one tune up at around 200k (plugs/wires/cap/etc), one clutch at around 240k, and that's about it for the engine/drivetrain.
My '66 C10 had a reman longblock 250 swapped in at 136k in 1990 for $1,014 which included rebuilding the cylinder head, tune up parts, clutch, thermostat, belts, hoses, vacuum advance, carb rebuild, and air filter. It's still going strong at 172k.

Nice! Similar story here. 225K on my 98 K2500… 454, 4l80e, and the rest of the drive train is all original and still running perfect.

My '08 Envoy is just under 253,000 on the original, untouched 5.3L and 4L60E, and yes the AFM still works too.

Re: How many miles on your stock motor without major work?
I believe he's referring to your old iron that grew up on the farm, traveling gravel roads, not the new stuff.
That said, my '68 C10 LWB fleet side grew up on the farm, has 61k on it and is still mostly original, besides the brushed on paint from 30 years ago. The original 250 still runs like the day it was bought, still has the original clutch and pressure plate in it. Truck came with 3 items on the SPID, one is an oil bath breather that, IMHO, is the best thing ever invented for farm trucks, contributing to the longevity of these old workhorses that were well maintained. It won't win any high mileage contests only sees about 1k a year now.

Re: How many miles on your stock motor without major work?
My 402 failed and was rebuilt at 99K miles in 1993. 40K miles later it feels as good as ever. I've only installed a new chain, oil pump & shaft that came with a frame off.
