Re: No Limit '72 C-10
Here's a project update. We're using the JT as a test bed for the new rack & pinion kits, as well as other parts for C-10s. Sway bars, shock mounts, springs, and panhard rod kits. We're trying to take a 'clean slate' approach, instead of following the stock concept. This way we get parts that work right, and fit right.
Micheal's little brother Seth helped out with the bodywork. And there's some shots of the rear suspension, and the rack. The rear swaybar is a test prototype, and so far looks to be very good. The bumpstops in the rear are from GM chassis motorhomes, and are really soft, andding in to get a progressive spring rate for the last 2". The 5.3 is tucked in tight, and we added a Spectra air intake. The cooling system is all done, as is most of the wiring. More to come.

Man, a R&P system would be a HUGE improvement over the tiller set up I have now. Can't wait to hear the details...

Re: No Limit '72 C-10
Looks great and I like the R&P swap but I have a few concerns and questions on the modifications to the A arms moving the ball joint out without giving a bit more explanation as to why you are doing this. I see the concept for this particular truck as the main focus is corner carving and running autocross where the alignment setup is quite a bit different from what would be desirable on the street to increase the longevity of a set of tires that sometimes now cost in the hundreds of dollars each.
Basically a front end that is set up correctly for Autocross will put severe wear on the inside tread of a set of tires in a few thousand if not hundred miles. Great for going faster around corners but not great when a set of tires might cost a guy as much or more than a month's net pay in a lot of cases and having increased negative camber could wear out a pair of tires before the second payment is due. |

And factory camber settings were around +.5 w/o wearing tires down so going -.5 would be the same amount of wear but benefit handling ability alot by keeping the nose of the truck in check & limiting the amount of 'push' in a constant corner.

Re: No Limit '72 C-10
I realize that Scott but quite often what works great for racing or some sort of competition doesn't always give optimum results for a strictly street driven vehicle. The increased caster will let the wheel snap back to center quickly and should allow the truck to track well. Usually a vehicle that is set up for serious autocross work will have around 1-1/2 to 2 degrees negative camber so that the outside tire has full tread contact on hard turns. That as you mentioned above would be out of alignment on a street only rig.
I just don't want to see guy who don't quite understand that this particular truck is being set up primarily to run hard and quick in it's chosen track venue with being street driven a secondary consideration. That fact that it may take higher steering effort or wear tires a bit more really isn't an issue as long as it keeps dropping the times at the track. What is a great modification for this truck might not be the best modification for a truck that is only driven on the street and primarily driven to cruise nights or shows. |

Re: No Limit '72 C-10
Good morning. While it is true that we want the JT to handle, it IS being built to be a daily driver. The A-arm mod in question is designed to increase caster, and yes, we did move the bottom ball joint out 1/4", this is only to make sure that we can set the alignmentcorrectly. Many stock trucks are limited, in alignment, when they run out of - camber range. Larger diameter wheels, and tires with shorter sidewalls react differently than the 78 series 15" wheels of yesteryear. Cars like BMW, Corvette, Mustang, Charger have high caster settings from the factory. Even the new Camaro comes with 8 1/2 deg caster. Our base alignment will be .75 deg - camber, +7 deg caster, toe in 1/16" No tire killer there.

Re: No Limit '72 C-10
More picts coming. Last night we drove the JT down to Adams Motorsports Park, and ran some time-attack laps. It was kind of gutsy to pull it off the lift, and drive straight to the track - but, hey, everything worked out great. The truck drives great, stays flat and hooked up in the corners, and it totally predictable.- not like it was. The steering is perfect, and the swaybars feel great. To say we are happy with the results is an understatement. The auto trans could be better, but it's a stocker with 60k miles. We are thinking about a late model style tuner like an Edge, or a Bullydog tuner that has trans control. If you are shocked about the JT being almost finished, don't worry. We have over 100 picts to post, and lots of text and part #'s to go along with it. My guys did the tear-down and rebuild in about 3 weeks, and I can't give then enough credit. They worked thier asses off. They set a goal to drive it to Del-Mar for the GoodGuys show this weekend, and they made it with time to spare.

Re: No Limit '72 C-10
53.35, but we were'nt pushing it very hard. 51's will be easy. Bret Voekel (RideTech) ran his 69 mustang last night, and I was focussed on helping him dial in the suspension, he ran a blazing 47.3 sec lap, and says the car handles better than ever.

He swapped to coil-overs right? That thing had some mean twist coming out of corners w/the ShockWaves.

No, thats on shockwaves. We spent about 4 hrs tuning and aligning the suspension yesterday, and it sure paid off.
