Re: What did you do to your truck today?
After making a final decision to use the Caprice core support mounting hardware I cut the holes and welded in plate to hold the 64 core support. Looked over the Caprice radiator and made mental notes on how to integrate it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Installed my new-to-me Deluxe heater. I have to admit, at first, I was thinking - "Man, that sure is a SMALL heater core." It didn't take long to change my mind though!! I could've baked bread in the cab this morning!! During my 20-minute drive to work, it got SO hot in the cab, I had to turn the heater ALL THE WAY OFF and roll down the window to get some relief!! I wired up the blower motor switch last night just to make some heat til today, now, I need to figure out what all the flappers and cables do and get them installed and connected.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
I just about have the underside of the cab repaired, just one more front cab brace to go. I painted the firewall section flat steel blue and undercoated the floor while i had some warm weather. Now it's back to normal temps and I hope to tip the cab back down so I can get it in the garage but it's freakin pitch dark at 4:45 in the afternoon....sheshh!

What kind of relay do you use for headlights ? I am not electrically inclined, so I don't have a clue. Thanks

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
The plan for today is to finish off the '69 and get it back on the road. had a slight delay, waiting for new headers. Interested to see how the new cam/intake combo improves it. Waiting on a new dual electric fan setup, but put the clutch and original shroud on for now with a new triple pass aluminum radiator. Bought a Gearvendors over/under drive off another site and should be hear by next weekend, so will be able to cruise the highway at about 2200-2400 rpm and still keep my 4.11 gears and my TH400. She is working on her little project and we hope to fire off that big block maybe tomorrow for the first time.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Picked up a "parts" truck today for the fleetside bed. but the truck seems to have a lot of good parts.. Spent some time cutting up the caprice radiator support and mocking it into the 64. Hopefully I will have it ready to put in tomorrow so I can start figuring out what to do with the inner fenders..

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
All went somewhat well. The '69 is running and performs great. BUT the gear drive I chose is horrible. Not the good sounding whine some like, this has more of a growl-not pleasing at all. Removing it tomorrow night and going back to chain. Was very pleased with headers- been very happy with the Patriot brand lately. Hope you all had a good weekend. Lots of cool projects going on. Hope to get back to my '65 Burb next week-had to fix shop truck first.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
If you chose a fixed idler gear drive like the sig erson, quiet one they sound a little better, pete jackson dual idler drives are notorious for some reason for he growling, even though I chose a quiet gear drive for my coupe, after several long road trips it sorta made me nuts......

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
First....this is a great site, I'm really glad I got on board and joined. I'm really amazed at the projects and talent here.
As for one of my trucks (one is '66 one is '72), I'm in 'wait' mode for a week until a shipment gets here with a brand new grill/insert ('72) as well as new cab bushings, some chrome trim pieces and then a few used pieces. All of this is coming in from good ol' Bill Peeters of 'Bills Truck Shop', Ontario....good guy. My '66 is in hibernation in the garage....but I'm going to hopefully fire it up and pull it out long enough to do some rustchecking on it before tucking it back in again. As for today, well......just gonna' go out for a drive and thats about it. Given the upcoming Christmas season 'hobby' time is going to be on the downslope side so putting in the new grill/etc and the other upgrades will have to wait until January. Keep up the amazing work and projects guys!! All Good Coley

You must not be alone in your annoyance with gear drives. Back in the 70’s-80’s it seemed like everyone had one. Where I live now I think I’ve heard maybe one or two others in the last 10 years so they have apparently fallen out of favor. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Meshed the caprice and 64 core support together. Mounted the radiator, AC condenser and the oil and trans cooler. Hung the sheet metal on it to see what was rubbing and/or in a bind. So far so good.. Everything is tacked in place. Now, time to take it all apart and start boxing the frame back in and making it more permanent..
