Thought I would put the TJ jeep springs in..



I had read that they fit very well in the stock location but I was still surprised by how well they fit.



Since I had the heavy duty springs out back, the coils were very thick and the jeep springs were much smaller diameter. That lead to quite a bit of slack between the frame and spring as you can see here...



I am sure that most of the slack would have been taken out when tightened, but I did not see the need of it if I could tighten it some. So, I massaged the coil retainer with a great big hammer.

First I flattened the middle and then around the edges to make it more level



ended up with this



In these pic you can see how that the fit is much better



and final fit looked good as well



As you can see I also took a pic of my high dollar fluid retainment system, if anyone is interested I could hook you up for a small fee

I also have the lowering blocks on and I will try to post some pics of that later.

I went to my local scrap yard and bought a piece of square tubing that was 14" long ($3.00) and then cut it in half and then measured (two or three times) and drilled holes for the u-bolts.







I had the u-bolts made at a local truck shop, 3/4" rod with 3 1/2" interior width and 10" long. I could have used a shorter length but I want to trim it to size in case of scrub line issues. I also took off the nuts that came with the u-bolts and replaced them with grade 8 nuts that gave me more clearance.



This is what I ended up with. I have never done this before but it went together easy enough and so far has not fell off so I am going to deem it a sucess

No kiddin'. It came up for sale on a local radio station here in town. Guy was asking $1500 for it, he was trying to shoe horn it into his '70 el camino. He said that it would not fit and was going back to the original motor.

I did not have the 1500 but we worked out a deal that I gave him 1000 and he kept the interior. He was happy and so was I!

I am like everyone else who usually just hears about great deals like this and never finds one himself. I guess God just decided it was my turn!!

I really like the "Cherry Bomb" project! Just about everything you have done reminds me of some of the things I have done on trucks over the years. I didn't have any idea a 91 burb setup is that close. keep up the good work, I'll be watching for more ideas.

Okay, I admit it... I painted my frame too quick.
I thought I was about ready to put the cab on, so I redrilled for the back mounts.


Then I installed the 2 1/2 drop spindles from GMC Pauls





I was going to do some more painting and touch up...

but this is when I made my mistake... I could not help but wonder if a '80s Blazer tank a friend had would somehow fit under the bed. I did a search and sure enough... LFD had already been there done that. To top it all off while I was searching for that info I came across the pics of cutting through the crossmember for the exhaust.

I am either going to have to quit reading this site or just stop fighting and let the madness take over.

I know the holes look pretty rough but my bit blew up about 2/3 of the way through... exciting yes, but at least I did not catch myself on fire again.lol

A little filing and grinding and she will look good.

I also did a little mock up for the gas tank. I have not quite decided which way I want it... I just know I want it!!











Things are gonna get ugly with the panhard bar...

Good question, and one I don't quite know the answer to yet.

I could try an adjustable panhard bar with one end attached to the walking arm and them fab a bracket that hangs lower than stock on the frame side.

I have also heard some have put the panhard in front of the diff. although I have never seen it done.

your idea on the panhard bar would work just fine, just build a bracket to come down some from the frame and run the long panhard bar... i feel your pain on the frame i have had mine completely done 2 times now working on the last time !!!! lol

Starting working on the cab this weekend. Tore out the rocker panels and what do I see...



Yep, the old Expand-O-Foam. Spray a little foam, apply a little bondo and paint your way to a new rocker... well, at least for a while.

At least it comes off easy.

Inspirational, I'll be watching yu. I just started cutting down a chasis for my ol 71 this past weekend, got it all cut down and welded up. She now a short bed, Was tempted to go a couple inches shorter than normal short bed but wasn't sure how it would really look. Decided to stict to the norm as this is my first C10. I'll have to get her blasted and painted now.

Yeah, my buddy tried to talk me into taking the whole 20" out of the front of the bed. I told him you realize that would put the wheel well in the middle of the bed. He said " yeah, it sure would be different." I told him that different does not always mean better. lol
Some people like that look and more power to them, but like you, I am more traditional (says the man who just hacked his frame, and moved his gas tank, and modified for exhaust)
For the record my buddy still thinks I am nuts for not going his way.

No way! Man, I wish I would have seen you. I was to concentrated on some Chicken Polenta to be aware of my surroundings. lol
