Thanks guys. Found some Dorman's for 55/each. I know what I am doing this weekend! That and replacing the intake manifold gasket. :-)

Re: Newbie Here - My first project - Reveille!

When you change them- go to AZ and get Percy's copper gaskets, and permatex Ultra Copper. Slather your donut gasket in the copper rtv. Crank it all down and have a couple slow Shiners before firing it up. Drive 'er around a few times and crank it down again. Voila'! Quiet truck for the long term! Congrats on the inspection, now go do some burnouts and piss off the HOA!

Pulled the rear wheels/drums off last night to inspect and did find a few pieces that may have slipped while I was installing. Fixed those but same issue. Cables pull the lever, but apparently aren't pulling tight enough. I'm going to go through the cables this weekend and tighten where I can. Any other thoughts?

Really want to get her inspected and at least road worthy. Also have to adjust the timing. She diesels after shutdown. I have done a full tune/carb replacement. Before that she wouldn't even hardly start. So I am pretty sure I got that part right. Thinking about running a can or two of seafoam through her to see if that helps as well to break up any buildup in the intake.

The truck was called in by another jealous 72 chevy truck owner with an rust bucket! lol

Thanks Low!!! There will definitely be some Shiner's killed during the process!

Figure while I'm at it, I'll go ahead and replace the valve cover gaskets too! Might as well make a day of it!

Well, thought I would be replacing exhaust manifolds, intake gasket and valve cover gaskets this weekend. Unfortunately my daughters '96 jeep GC's water pump is going out. So that is what I will be doing this weekend! Dang it!!!!!!

Re: Newbie Here - My first project - Reveille!

If its a 6, it's a couple hour job. Have fun with the rad and grille. A dewalt heavy drill and a 10 mm socket is your new best friend. Pump itself is pretty quick and easy.

Thanks Low! Yep it is the inline 6. Still may work on Reveille this weekend if I can. Hate to leave her alone! :-)

Doh! I forgot, the one I did had a balancer as part of the job. You shouldn't have to pull the grille, water pump was cake.

Also, check into the Neon fuel injector upgrade. Better mileage, smooth running and easy to do.

Thanks Tinker! Apparently something happened with it this morning on the way to school. She got to school and said it was smoking and AF was pouring out. It is only a 2 mile drive to school so I can't imagine what happened. It was driven all weekend with no issues. :-( Gonna have to try to get off work early and go see I guess.

Re: Newbie Here - My first project - Reveille!

Here are the pics. Had to grind off one of the studs going to the exhaust on the drivers side. Then on the passenger side, had to grind off two of the manifold bolt heads. They had been rounded off and wouldn't come out. Got it put back together but need to go to hardware store and pick up a couple of bolts to finish putting it together. :-(

Ah, the eternal question- how can a man drive a vehicle for days no problem, and a woman drive it for ten minutes and kill it? How? Glad you got the truck runnin! Give it to the daughter so you'll have to put a 450 horse 383 in it! See- I'm an innovator!
