Re: turbos on inline 6

Easy fix the- 307 chevy v8 piston can be picked up cheap ( in a forged piston-usually trw , sealed power etc) for the 250 -it is literally a drop in-pin height, rings , etc. On the 230 the 283 forged piston is a drop in . There are ten million sets of 283 pistons( forged and other on ebay etc.
It is true that some of the SBC pistons have a narrow skirt that will put some cylinder wall stress, but below 5500rpm its not likely to cause a problem.
I actually ran a set in a 250 with a supercharger- turned it 6500-7500 hard and often-ran 10-16 psi - with a 144 B and M blower on my intake - broke a lot of things - the pistons were not one of them.
I race on a shoe string budget-you lern to use a mic and read the part book fast. your machinist is your friend.

Re: turbos on inline 6

I doubt most of us actually will get the engines over 5500 rpm thats fairly high especially for a 6 cylinder

Thanks, I was thinking there might be another piston that would work.

Re: turbos on inline 6

well, a 235 has a 3.562" bore correct?

ford modular engines have a stock bore of 3.552"

that's close and with some machining you might be able to use some over-sized forged pistons for a modular ford motor. there is still the pin diameter to deal with, but that's one idea. pins are only slightly larger on the ford pistons.

if a 0.030" over bore cleans up the bores enough, you could go with something like this:

Re: turbos on inline 6

So a .02 modular piston would be .01 over stock 235 Hmmmm
They aren't cheap though.
then there is the issue of only having four main bearings vs the 250 and 292 having 7

Re: turbos on inline 6

Yeah and you obviously would need to convert to a full flow oil filter.

Yeah, it's too bad that I have a good set of forged modular pistons in my garage, but they are the stock bore size 3.552"

What's the pin height on the Ford piston?

Re: turbos on inline 6

Didnt Tom Langdon do a build on a 235 or a 261 that used either the 231 buick turbo piston or something GM. Check Toms site or the inliners international site. I bet some one has got it.
I always built the 250- 292 stuff becuase ituses half of the SBC parts and i can score them used for cheap.

Re: turbos on inline 6

there is a thread started on this same topic on the 67-72 side as well. Too bad we can't get together on this.
