Re: am i not cool?
It is real common for the hinges to wear out. That is what was wrong with the '69 and most likely that is what is wrong with yours.

Re: am i not cool?
Your truck is very cool man. Wish mine was in as good as condition as yours. I love the low and the lifted, and the stock to layin frame. Its all about what you want most and what works for you. Love the white on white. Can't wait to see what you do next.

Re: am i not cool?
You are cool in my book...as is anyone who drives old iron.
I love my truck as it sits...slightly lowered by 40 years of gravity's pull. BUT...the thought has crossed my mind to lower it a little more so it handles better. I definitely would not want to "slam" it...as it is used regularly as a truck.

OK anyways WOW! I didn't think i would get this many responses! I am glad im not the only one though...My cousin had 72 short bed and slammed it to the ground my friend has a 72 long bed and he C notched it and slammed it to the ground my other friend had a 65 also C notched it and put airbags in it.....and every pic on google trucks are slammed! LOL!.....I LOVE the "farmers" look of my truck to me it makes it look like a real work horse truck and she kind of is.....when i built my dogs kennels i put 3 scoops of sand and 5 bags of cement and she took it like a champ! I really dont plan on doing much but changing the rims to more practical ones (16.5 are still on) and maybe a freeway friendly tranny upgrade....I will keep you guys posted and again thanks for all the responses! |

Re: am i not cool?
I prefer the stock height and look myself.
However, our trucks look great customized, lowered, chopped, lifted, rusty, half painted, on blocks, etc. In my opinion, there are very few models of trucks or cars that can look great in such a variety of ways.

Re: am i not cool?
I love your truck, it looks great the way it is. A mild lowering looks pretty good on a half ton but I don't even care for that on a 3/4 ton. As for slammed... To me they look like a dog that has been beat so many times that it is cowed down. I don't like that look on trucks or dogs. With that said I really admire the engineering that goes in to some of the slammed trucks and I am following several build threads on this forum where they are slammed. I just remind myself how boring life would be if everyone had them exactly alike.
PS I dig the white on white.

Original stance for me, all day, everyday.
I don't even want chrome on mine (although at one time I did but no longer). Painted bumpers are fine. |

Re: am i not cool?
Stock is cool. The engineers and design guys must have thought it was cool too, right?
I live down a 2 mile long gravel road. It wouldn't make sense for me even if I like lowered. I lower stuff...just not trucks. Doing what YOU like is really cooler than following the herd. IMHO

Re: am i not cool?
I don't mind them when they're done right and made to handle (pro touring), but when any mod hurts the functionality of a vehicle I don't see the point. Lifted, slammed, stock..I like em all if done right. I'll admit, I've wanted to full around with a bagged truck, and see what its all about, but who knows...I may hate it if I owned one. To each his own...

Re: am i not cool?
I like them stock to lowered maybe 3" or just enough to cover some of wheel well but not take the ride out of them. I had a 67 swb before and put a big block in it to lower the front end and then brought the back down to where it road level. That looked pretty nice. I'm headed tomorrow to look at another 67 to hopefully revive it.

Re: am i not cool?
I like stock height. But I would like to bag my truck so it goes from stock height and down from there. I am a few years away from getting my truck to that point though so I wont dream about it yet.

Re: am i not cool?
I think any vehicles coolness factor depends on the person who is doing the viewing. And I think if you worry about whether your truck (or whatever) meets with someone elses view of whats cool, you are in to trucks (or whatever lol) for the wrong reasons.
There are a whole lot of trucks on this board that a ton of time and money have been thrown at that I just don't get. There are some super simple trucks on this board that I love. For the most part I don't care for the slammed with giant rims trucks ... but there are some of this style that just work for me. So there is no real answer to what is cool or not. There ya go my 1.5 cents worth lol

Re: am i not cool?
That last pic cracked me up!
I don't like slammed, but don't mind a very small drop of 1 maybe 2" max. I still chuckle when i see someone who cant get over a speed bump.. I don't mind looking at slammed trucks tho

Re: am i not cool?
What's not cool is only being able to appreciate what your personal vision of a perfect truck is.
Look around. GM built these light trucks in many shapes and forms to fulfill the variety of needs of their customers, from the light duty 2wd K/5s to hefty go where you need to go with a load K/20s to C/30s with 12' moving van bodies. They were built for uses from dual purpose driver/haulers,to dedicated work trucks,to vacation time fun machines. Over the past 40 years we have personalized these trucks to suit ourselves in a variety of ways...for looks, function,or both. It seems to me we should all be able to still appreciate these trucks in all shapes, sizes, and forms. One way sucks!

Re: am i not cool?
Any way you have them I like them. I would say stock will always be cool in my book. My 3/4 is stock and my short bed is a low. Rock on!

Look at it like this when everybody else has dropped or slammed yours will be kinda rare lookin at stock height, Just like my ole car everybody else has street rodded there cars you hardly ever see an original car anymore, there becoming more scarce.
I say hats off to everyone one who enjoys there car/trucks or whatever there into we all can't be the same or it would be BORING. It's a man thang. we bend metal we shape metal we make things. Me caveman I make Fire. Argh Argh.

Re: am i not cool?
Here is a shot of what your truck probably looked like when new in '67. ( 3/4 tons with 7.50-16 tires and lock ring wheels were very common during this era). Its unfortunate "factory correct" '67 3/4 ton builds are rarely undertaken.Note black trim paint around headlight buckets, a detail item usually overlooked after a repaint.
