Re: Hullo from the UK

Hullo folks! I've been busy enjoying the truck and not done a great deal to it yet, however, today I started making it quiet inside, with about two miles of Dynamat, some felt padding and some carpet - pictures tomorrow after the carpet is in place.

It's nice to see a couple more trucks from the UK on here too.

Re: Hullo from the UK

Hi,
Just found this thread.
Great looking truck and RHD is a real rarity.
Nice to have more of these cool trucks in the UK.
What's the history of yours? Any idea how long it's been here or where it was imported from?
Will keep an eye on this thread to see how the truck develops.
Just one question, having reversed into your garage how the hell did you get out of the truck?!

Re: Hullo from the UK

Well, first time I have seen this thread.

You should ask the mods to move it to the builds section.

Glad you are enjoying it so much.

I did not realise they had these in Australia.

Never were available in South Africa as far as I know.

But there are RHD examples in SA.

My truck will get Dynamat when I get to it as well.

Re: Hullo from the UK

Would a picture of the steering box be possible? Any casting numbers on the steering box?
There was a guy years ago, who came on the forum, had one of these from South Africa.
The members from South America with production built in Argentina, have Speedometers in Kilometers per Hour.

Re: Hullo from the UK

Hullo All!

I'll take some photo's for sure, but according to the VIN number the truck came out of the Tarrytown plant in New York. I believe all the export trucks (RHD) were made in Canada, but this one was a factory option. Possibly done for an English farmer, who knew he would be bringing it back to the UK at some point. Imported into the UK in 1974 with an I6, it's had a 350 small block fitted and a new dash from, I think, an Impala. Other than that I know nothing

Ha! I had a Mustang a few years ago, so the garage has a side roller door too - with the truck I just slide along the bench and hop straight out. Unless I forget to open the door first, then I have to get the frigging thing out again and start all over again. It's a chore parking it in there, but as it fits so nicely with 1" clearance all round, it's a shame not to!

Apparently it's Radiant Red - it's been resprayed at least once in it's life, about 10 years ago judging by the stack of invoices that came with it.

Only from certain angles

Test ride tomorrow as we're off to Gawsworth Hall to see if it glides along quiet as a mouse now.

I believe so. Whether that was a factory deal, or has been done since I'm not sure. Can't find a great deal of info about any of the Tarrytown RHD trucks.

Re: Sideways Tim's Right Hand Drive 66 Stepside - UK

Took the truck to a great little show today at Gawsworth Hall, ran great and lots of positive comments, but having a picnic and sitting on the tailgate highlighted an issue that needed addressing...

A few pics of the show first.

The carpark is the best bit, as if you turn up in something interesting you get to park up in the grounds of the hall.

That's my Brother in law's Lotus Esprit next to my awesome truck

The 'proper' display cars are on the lawn - so much fabulous stuff to see.

Always had a soft spot for an Alpine A110.

Here's a Bristol - you yanks probably haven't seen one of these before.

Re: Sideways Tim's Right Hand Drive 66 Stepside - UK

First issue that needs sorting - can you spot the problem?

Sitting on the tailgate, made it obvious that something was amiss - there's not a lot holding the back end on and one of the brackets had snapped. It had snapped before I sat on the tailgate - honest! Got my boy to get his welding kit out and zap it back together.

I then added a few more brackets to tie everything together. Plus I 'fixed' the fuel lever sender, as the wire in the rheostat had snapped. It now reads 1/4 full, instead of completely full all the time. After that it was beer and pizza time!

Re: Sideways Tim's Right Hand Drive 66 Stepside - UK

Need a bit of advise. I fitted a nice new rubber gaiter around the shift lever and as the rubber is so stiff, it keeps pushing the lever out of gear. Is there any way to tighten up the selector, to help keep it engaged? It's a Saginaw 3 speed.
Cheers.
