Re: Crash's 72 K10
Yes it will be soon by the looks of it. Sure as nice to finally use mine, made a deal last night trading an engine build for a paint job and new ghost style flames on my truck, not for awhile, but setup now anyway, think I will use as is for the winter, that is after I fix my rear diff. I blew up

Re: Crash's 72 K10
I'm surprised you were able to get as good a fit as you did with the reproduction doors and fenders. Looks good. FYI, thefront edge of the door has a bit of a curl inward normally so it is usually in a small amount from the edge of the fender. I think it is to keep from rubbing when you open the door. All of the OEM ones I've seen are like that. Maybe that is causing some of the door to fender profile difference you see. Sometimes you can get the rear edge of the fender flatter by having someone push in on that middle section while you tighten the bottom bolt to put some tension in the panel. The top bolts would need to by tight so the lines match up. You might need to open that hole up a bit on the cab part so the bolt will go low enough. It's worth a shot anyway.

Re: Crash's 72 K10
Man that is a sweet build. It's got to be awesome to see it with the bed back on it once again. Im getting tired of looking at my cab and bed in separate places! I'm sure you said it somewhere in the thread, but what brand is your cowl hood? It looks like it fits really nicely. I wanted one but i steered away from it because of the horror stories of fitment issues. I have repop fenders, so maybe a repop hood would work with them? Keep up the good work man, looking forward to seeing it with color.

Re: Crash's 72 K10
Update time.. Stopped by Classic Parts in OKC and picked up a few parts.. Bumpers, Bumper Brackets, Tailgate, mirrors, etc…
Drilled holes for the bumper brackets, still need to align rear bumper.. It was cold this morning.. fired up the heater.. Still working on getting the cab ready to take to Kyle… Decided to cut the slots for the head liner trim today.. 16 slots Taped the trim up to the top of the roof to make where the slots should be... Drillled a 7\32 hole on each side of the slot, used the 3” cutoff wheel, and then cleaned up with die grinder.. Hope to get the mirrors mounted tomorrow and start the tear down..

Re: Crash's 72 K10
Dang, that's a lot of work for the headliner slots, but nice to see how that can be done. How did the repop tailgate work out for you? Are you going to stick with the bulkhead connector location on the firewall?
It's cool to how it's coming along. Posted via Mobile Device

The slots really didn't take that long.. I spent a couple of hours messing around with them... The repop tailgate is like all other repop stuff.. it just don't fit like it should... but hey.. It is just an old truck... I am going to stick with the location.. it seems to be the best spot for my build.. Why do you ask?

Re: Crash's 72 K10
The trim has tabs on it that pop into the slots to hold it up..

Re: Crash's 72 K10
I don't know what your system requires on the other side of the firewall for replacement options, but I would try to run the lines down to the frame and do the connector as far under the the passenger fender as I could. That's a thing I have - I prefer to bundle lines and hide stuff as much as I can.

My fix? I found a nice used OEM gate and I'm going to replace it.

Thanks, great idea..... But I think I will leave the bulkhead where it is.. It's just an old truck... My tailgate problems are with the profile of the tailgate it is seems to be a little too thick as compared to OEM.. I am afaid, I will be looking for a OEM to replace mine someday as well...

Re: Crash's 72 K10
Looks like a bunch of nice parts Mark. I need to get a set of bumpers and headliner trim myself. On the the tailgate, good luck finding a nice original.... I've been searching for a while.
Look forward to paint pics soon Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Crash's 72 K10
In your description to cut the slots for the headliner you said you drilled 7/16" holes. Is that accurate or a typo? The holes don't look that big in the pics, but I could obviously be wrong. They look about half that, or less.
Looks good BTW. Getting real close to doing the finish body work and paint.
