Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
pretty clean/good deals. i guess originality of the truck would make a difference in the price i mean a 1 owner low miles survivor truck that the owner special ordered & watched the truck come off the line would command a higher price tag than something that has been hacked upon already, or something that was a frame off restoration replaceing every thing might sell for more if someone who werent set up do the work themselves was looking for one -jeff

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
Seems to me, that in my area. Prices go up and down every few months or so. Normally squares run any where from 1-5k. Then out off the blue they jump to the 5k-UP range. It's like someone sells a nice one for a lot of money, and everyone else jacks the price up. Hoping to score big.
Couple of months ago a co-worker asked me to help him find one. After his newer ford died. And for that entire month we couldn't find one for under 5k. Now they seem to be coming back down. |

Prices are going down here too. Fall is coming so I think the seasons have a little to do with prices to it seems.

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
I like how everyone who paints their P.O.S. rattle can flat black is calling it a rat rod! Hahahaha!
I have to admit, I've thought about creating a TX, AZ, NM to IA, MN, WI auto trade on some of these older soon to be classics before. It's amazing what people will call "junk" down there even without a spec of rust. I've been to a few of your salvage yards and I've seen worse looking stuff out on the road up here in the winter time. To us up here above the winter salt line, anything rust free is worth saving!!!

Good point made on the "we can fix them", helps us enjoy our trucks doesn't it, sure wouldn't even think about fixing anything new today, especially electronic wise...which sensor, hmm.

It's a love hate relationship some days for sure. The only nice thing about the newer stuff like one of our work vans is when one of the coil packs dies the computer tells us which one to change. Although it will always be the hardest one to reach and how hard depends on how much of a hurry your in.

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
The new stuff can be nice for sure and trustworthy for a trip, not to many long trips on the old ones even if they are almost perfect, but style with the squares and back are just cool. Took mine on a 700 plus mile trip to a car show a few weeks back and people just stared and smiled, well worth it, haha plus it made it.

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
I am beginning to think that these old square may go up in value in the future because the cost to repair more modern vehicles is getting ridiculously expensive. (I just got estimates from $700-$900 to replace a leaking heater core in my Cavalier because the entire dash and all the fixins have to come out(something I don't feel comfortable doing myself). I replaced my 83 C20 heater core for $40 and about 2 hours of amateur labor.
An old 350 1/2 ton square can get 13/17 mpg, and a new 2014 truck will get 18/25 mpg, but unless you drive your truck a lot (like 20K miles per year), you will be money ahead on driving an old square. Since there are still a lot of rust free square around, I think they will be more in demand in future years. Having said that, I think we will see no more than $3-5K for daily drivers in good shape for the next few years. |

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
Man a grood shape square here is over $3,000 easy and a great shape is $8-10G's easy, def in demand now more than 67-72 which are priced way above that, then get into a 4x4 or shortbox, big bucks. Yep better keep mine.

I did it myself and only had a couple screws left over from taking the whole dash apart. It still wasn't fun and for the cheap 1/2 ton truck that it was, that's a ridiculous repair bill! If insurance had to replace it, it would have been a write off I bet. |

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
I was offered $8,000 for mine back in August of '13 by a car dealership owner who saw it. It was a serious offer, but I said no. In 2010, I was offered $9,000 by somebody at a car show who had one just like it in the 80s. Not sure how serious he was, but I declined.
I love my truck too much and don't need to sell it, so if you want it, you have to pay the "truck separation fee," which brings its market price to approximately $20,000

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
Ask a lot then people won't want to pay and you get to keep it, works "most" of the time, some crazy one's still want to pay but not many of them around.

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
Square bodies are becoming more popular.I sold a 76 orange stepside in the spring for $12.5 ...lots of money in it so...I wasn't giving it away...I bought a loaded up 86 a few months ago for $10 k...put a bunch in it...I put it on C.L. for $18.5 not a sniff? Don't wan to sell...testing the waters...alot of junk out there...my 86 I feel that I paid alot for it but it's clean n low everything is right on it but I like to build them n sell them. I keep reserching a LS conversion...I'll never get my money out of it then!!! Kinda moves it into the next tax bracket!!! LOL!!!

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
In Europe a crew (not dually) will be above 10k if it's drive able. The prices go up from there, one of my friends just payed 21k EURO for a regular cab in perfect condition after restoration.
Square bodies in good condition are classics over here for sure! Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
The way I see it, the value of these is all over the place. Part of the reason is year, part of the reason is the CONDITION...
A pre-80 in immaculate shape is going to be worth more than am 86 in the same shape.. Its rare, it has slightly more cool factor. Maybe I am a bit biased, but you wont get me into a square headlight truck.. Once you get away from the really nice ones, it comes down to just how bad is it, and what makes it bad.. A heap of crap is a heap of crap, whether its a 65 or an 85. Shoddy body work that is obviously covering stuff up, is just that no matter what its on. Down here I see 60's models all the time for 2500, and I see 70's and 80's ones for 8-12K.. A rotted out 65 isnt going to be worth what a nicely done 76 is worth.. One thing I have noticed(that really strikes me as strange) is that up north yall seem to have more older vehicles on the road, and they are in decent shape. Down here in Florida you rarely see classics on the road. I think we pretty much used them up as cars and discarded them a long time ago. You are hard pressed to find a pre 1985 vehicle in the junkyard down here even. The fact that all the non-obvious classics were tossed aside years ago here, makes them worth more.. Not sure what all the whining about the Barret Jackson and what not was all about earlier in the thread. Yeah, I am disappointed too I missed out on my oppurtunities to buy my dream Mopar's.. When I was 15(1989) I saw a cherry red 69 Charger at a carlot.. It was red with a white vynil top and interior for 3900.. I begged and begged my dad for a loan.. Nope.. Too much.. Later I found a 68 Cuda with a 383 for 1800 had to pass on that too because of a lack of funds.. Finally settled on a 72 Firebird for $450. Maybe I will pony up the 30K for a decent charger one of these days, likely not. Oh well.. I don't hold it against those that can afford to. Barrett jackson didnt screw anything up.. Prices are based on what the market will bear, and unfortunately not everyone is in the market. |

Re: Are these trucks getting more valuable in todays market?
The square body trucks will definitely raise in value just take a look at the prices of NOS trim parts, 1000 for tailgate inserts, 1200 for cab suround trim, 300 for aluminum interior pieces. I have always been into the 4wd square bodies and I have sold 3 K30s for $14K+ each. They may not see the 67-72 market prices but the special ones bring top dollar, 85-87 c10/k10 silverado shortbeds, silverado K20's and K30's seem to be the ones bringing top dollar.
