Re: Frankentruck

Hmmm, that’s not supposed to happen. This fuel hose was purchased about 3 years ago or so. Guess I gotta keep checking on it and replace before it starts spewing everywhere

Re: Frankentruck

Yikes! That's never good! I've had rubber fuel line and those plastic fuel filters fail on me before. Always worried about an engine fire. I used as little rubber line as possible on my 66 as the lines are on the exhaust side. Good thing ya caught it!

Re: Frankentruck

Yeah these days fuel hose doesn't last very long and you gotta keep an eye on it.
Most of my better hose has held up ok for a few years but I have seen some cheap stuff like the short sections that comes with fuel filters crack and split within months to a year.
I usually have been using gates brand hose though mine has held up fine for a year or so I have heard that that brands quality is getting questionable as well.
Got some made in USA stuff off eBay some years ago and it's seemed to have held up ok but don't know if you could get the same stuff from there anymore.
From what I've heard it's best to run metal lines if all possible with very limited short sections of rubber hose and check the hose for cracking as part of regular maintenance.
All that said I have fallen to the cheap and simple way of useing rubber fuel line, currently running rubber hose from the fuel pump to the carb. On the 250 in my 76 C10. But I check it regularly and I do plan on running a steel line on it eventually.

Re: Frankentruck

Major life update: I bought a house, so now Frankentruck and Penny have their own spots in a garage.

Frankentruck has been putting in some work moving furniture and towing Penny to the new place. The previous owner had installed a trailer brake controller, and it still works, once I figured out the settings on it

The 283 had no problem pulling Penny, other than just going slower up the hills. Worked out very well!

Thanks! Even though it's just an attached garage, it's one that'll it both C10s and still allow for work to be done inside. A win in my book.

Thanks! Not sure if SETN is in the cards for this year. The house stuff is probably gonna have to take priority over finishing up some truck projects and going to shows this year.

Thanks! A garage of some sort was one of my main requirements while looking for a place to buy.

Re: Frankentruck

After all the work Frankentruck put in on Friday, apparently the Delphi fuel pump installed a couple years ago didn't enjoy it. I had to replace it again on Sunday. Of course, the one trip I take to see my girlfriend without bringing my tool box is the one trip the fuel pump dies Got it fixed and was able to make it home though.

Thanks! I love putting mine to work. Gotta use them for what they've been designed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Unfortunately, I do have some bad news. On May 4th, I embarked on another trip to my parent's home so that I could get all my clothes and such and officially move into my house. Just a few miles into the trip, I shifted from 1st to 2nd and apparently the shifter hung up. When the clutch re-engaged, crunchy noises ensued. I don't know if I bent/broke a shift fork in the transmission, or if I chunked a few teeth out of second gear, but either way, I pulled over immediately. Once I finally got the shifter un-stuck, I was able to limp Frankentruck back to my house by just using 1st and 3rd.

I haven't had a chance to pop the side cover off since I went to the beach with the fam the second half of last week. Gonna try to find out what exactly happened later this week.

Man, that sucks. I remember reading you were having a hard time or were searching for a while for parts for that transmission. Not sure if that is for the overdrive parts or the regular internal parts. Hopefully it isn't any too big and could be an easy fix.

Re: Frankentruck

Over the weekend, I got the transmission pulled out and figured out what broke. Second gear is toast. I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to just replace that gear or if I’m going to swap out to a different transmission. I have another overdrive in the garage, but it’s completely unknown condition wise.

Ouch, good thing you have a replacement and don't have to go looking for one.

Re: Frankentruck

I ended up deciding to use one of the other transmissions I had picked up over a year ago. I swapped side covers to use the one that already had the correct levers. I swapped the electrical components for the overdrive since those were still working great. Got it up in the truck last week and have driven it a couple times on short errands after work. Seems to be working ok, but it is whining some in 1st and 2nd gear. Don't know how long this one will last, but hopefully until I can get Penny going again.
