Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Got a little done today. I cleaned and painted my intake so it would look as clean as the engine when it goes back together and also took a couple of pics of how they gave my engine back to me. Chipped paint, grease, different color paint on the front and just sloppy lookin work alltogether. The harmonic balancer was perfect, now not so much. They also scratched my timing chain cover really bad. I drove all over town looking for 5/8 fine thread all thread rod so I could extend my panhard bar, but couldn't find any.

Well, that thoroughly stinks...
....are you going to sand and repaint it? What's your ETA on starting it up (out of the truck)?

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Absolutely. Hopefully there is no issues but it will give me a little peice of mind before it is back in the truck. It will have to be painted before I put it all back together so hopefully it's good!!

There are two Chevy oranges. From what I understand one was used on big blocks and is a little darker and the brighter one was used on small blocks. I always use the darker one on everything just because I like the color better.

Grade 8, 5/8" fine threaded rod, 36" length $33.21 http://www.gotbolts.com/index.jsp?pa...D,GRADE.8,FINE If you call them up they might be able to sell you a smaller length. If you have to buy the 3' length then get a couple nuts to go with it and thread them on behind where you are cutting it down. After you make the cut and grind the chamfer onto the cut end then thread the nuts off over the cut end. It will straighten out any area of the threads that were damaged by the cutting process.

Yep, they are the culprits of this travisty. It's obvious they really don't give a sh*t about there customers items. I even asked that they try to be careful of the paint on other peices than the block, well, that didn't work. Thanks alot Motor City Motors!!!!!!

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
I had the same type of bad experience with a shop I took a truck too for chassis and suspension work.. Man it is stressful. I wanted to go hurt the guy but I know better then that. Was supposed to have my truck three months and he had it a year and a half

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
I suppose that we hear alot of bad stories, but we don't hear the good ones cause there is no stress that goes with it. I just hope the fix is going to work and it won't have to be taken back.

Yep, me too. I can't wait to post up how great everything is going, unfortunately it'll be a little while. Taking a vacation and really won't be able to do anything to the truck for about 2 weeks, errrrrrrrrrr.

Wow, looks like a perfectly nice junkyard core! Glad to see it's back in your posession, glad to know that the shop got their name out there on a sight that so many people go to for referrals and advice! Good luck getting it all back together Slick!

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
Hey Heath! Hope you are well, haven't heard from you in forever. It is really good news and hopefully it will be painted in about 3 weeks. I'll stop by your build site.
Hahhaha. Yeah they really deserve the publicity!! I gotta have it painted before I put it all back together and hopefully it won't have to be pulled back apart!!

We don't know why your block cracked where it did and I am afraid it may develop a new crack in or near the repair area. I know it is a pain but I think it is worth it to drop the engine in the truck, run it up to temp and let it cool down at least four times before you put the effort into painting it again. You really need to heat cycle that repair a few times to make sure they got it all fixed and that what they did to fix it is going to hold. I would be inclined to strip off the paint in the repair area to see what is under it and so you could see if the oil is still making its way out the repair area sooner during the heat cycle process. You need to do this part anyway as prep for the new paint so all you are really out is a little time in stabbing the engine in and pulling it back out. Our trucks are pretty simple so it shouldn't take you more than an hour to do the install and then the removal after the test run heat cycle process on the repair. You can leave the hood off and run it on straight water to make things easier and reduce the work & possibility of paint damage to the truck. I know the time, effort and money that will need to go into prepping and painting the block again. I don't want to see you have to go through that a third time if the block repair doesn't hold.

Re: 1967 C10 Custom Big Window
From one Slick to another I think 68TT is right. Probably be a good idea to drop it in even thought it's a pain and run it a few times to make sure it's gonna be good before you get it all show quality again. PIA I know, but you'll be glad if it was to unfortunately start leaking again. Good luck buddy.

What fuel cell did you go with? I'm debating whether to go with a plas
