Rim width...

Could I get by with a 20"x10" rim on the back of my 72? I know that an 8.5" is the most forgiving on the front... Also, I want the wheels to be staggered so if I can run a 20"x10" wheel on the rear with a 5.25" b/s, what b/s could I run on the front if I went with a 20"x8.5" wheel for a decent staggered look?

20x8.5" w/a 5.25bs for up to a 5/7 drop. Anything more (bagged) & you might want 5.75"bs to tuck them in a little more so the tires won't hit the top of the outside edge of the fender lip.

22x9 would be a tight fit in front. It's do-able, but tight. You would need to measure everything per your truck (there's no generic dimensions when it comes to fitting a 6# package in a 5# spot).

Front.

22x9's will easily fit in the rear. I would measure for verification, but 5.5"bs should be the magic number for the 72 model rear (if everything is centered correctly). 20x10's would be a tight squeeze in factory 67-72 tubs on big-time drops. They'll fit but are going to be close on one side or the other. I used a 5"bs for my 68 & mini-tubbed the tubs < 2" to make sure they wouldn't buzz the outer edge & allow for plenty of clearance on the inner tub. A 72 might not need the mini-tub because the slightly wider width changes the bs needs.

I highly recommend grabbing a plain old steel wheel of a known size & use it as the baseline for determining what will work best on YOUR truck. Once you know the dimensions/bs of your baseline wheel, it's simple addition/subtraction to figure out what you'll need.

Yeah I know that it's virtually impossible to run greater than a 8.5" wide wheel on the front. I had planned on running a 10" wide wheel on the back and an 8.5" wheel on the front. I know I'll need to measure for appropriate backspacing, I was more worried about the 10" wide wheels on the back than the 8.5" wheels on the front.

In that case, they'll fit. Just measure using a baseline wheel & you'll have confidence the dimensions are correct for your truck.

i dont know the difference between 68 & 72 but on mine it has 16x10 in the rear and they tuck all the way in, i believe they are on 4.5" backspace?

Be forwarned that there will be fitment issues on the front with those wheels.

The low profile center cap will not clear your spindle dust cover. The only option I see that "might" work is order the spinners.

Not my first choice for center caps, but I don't see anything else that will work.

Weren't there some clearance issues with Coys too?

Yes there were but I've read their newest products for these trucks corrected the issue. The old fixes were to either turn down the snout of the brake rotor hub or add a specer under the center-cap of the wheel. I did the spacer & you couldn't tell it was there unless you looked too see if there was one (I'm that anal).

As for the link you provided on the wheels, what bolt pattern will you be using? I ask this because my initial review of their listing indicates no 20x8.5 in a 5x5 pattern (stock 72 pattern). I also can see they don't offer anything close to the proper back-space requirements for a 72 in the 20x10's (6.225 is too much). That much spacing will require about a 1" billet adapter (which adds to the cost of the wheels....).

Scoti as usual you are spot on with your insight. The Boss wheels do not offer a fitment for our trucks unless you go with 18/18 or 18/20s.

Even then the center cap is an issue that hasn't been resolved.
