Re: brake lines with drop member

here's mine. You will see clamps for two lines where one is empty. That will be for the air line.

The brake lines are 3/16" stainless. They are terminated to a -3AN fitting to connect a braided stainless line to the caliper.

i think i see some dust on there .....very nice, just wondering if you flare the SS with a hydrolic 37* flare tool or a manual one. if its hydrolic where did you get it from...again very clean and nice

The brake lines are 45 degree double flares with a manual tool. The hydraulic would be nice though! but pricey. The airlines are flareless Swagelok fittings.

Re: brake lines with drop member

what exact bender and flaring too are you using? I ended up buying a very nice (and VERY $$$) 37* for my air lines but now I still have to get one to do the brake lines.

Well the flaring tool I have I would not buy again. Its a great tool for steel, but a little wimpy when it comes to doing the stainless. It does it but you have to really show it who's boss!. Its a Snap-On/Blue Point flaring tool. If I were to buy another, I would look not further than Ridgid. I have a Ridged 37 degree flaring tool and that thing kicks 99.9% of the other brands butt. All my benders are also Ridgid. I will take picture for you guys in a second. Hold on...

YES. If you order straight lengths of stainless line from company's like Inline Tube, it comes double flared.

Not being able to double flare stainless is a common misconception.

Re: brake lines with drop member

Wow. You make it look easy!
I know for a fact it isn't.

The swagelok tubing is perfect for air lines.
I have some 3/8" swagelok tubing for mine,... but I think I like the looks of the 1/4" better.

I guess I haven't been keeping up with your build.
I'm glad to see you got a Dropmember for your truck.
With the high caliber build you're doing,... your truck deserved one.

Re: brake lines with drop member

keith,
I like what you did with the through frame fittings and bringing the soft line right to the frame. I wish I had thought of that!

So yes, I finally bit the bullet and got the dropmember for the exact reason you stated. I will update my build thread soon...I'm waiting on a part from Nate.

Re: brake lines with drop member

i used swagelock fittings on my dually project and could not stop them from leaking. let me tell you, you have to tighten the snot out of them. i hope you have better luck then i did. i was using 1/2 lines on my project with 200 psi pressure. maybe a smaller line and less pressure will be ok.

We use Swagelok fitting where I work all the time. Up to 3000psi.
They work great.
Usually just takes a turn and a half (8 flats on the hex nut) from finger tight, to make them leak proof.

I still need to figure out a way to restrain the braided lines.
Maybe tie them to the upper a-arms like they did in the 73-87 trucks.
I really like the clamps from Made4You.
I ordered mine direct from Made4You,... but Summit Racing has them also.

Re: brake lines with drop member

jlaird,... If you ever get a chance to purchase a Swagelok brand tubing bender, buy one. There is no better bender in the industry. The even have a little tab on them that can be clamped in a vice to free up that extra hand that you need,... and don't have. Ha.
