Found a good deal on a 6l80e....

Saw this on perfomancetrucks.net. Was gonna get it for myself, but can't find a good reason why the 6 spd would be any better for my truck than the 4l80e that I have. It's a smoking deal, guy is asking $1250! Just thought I'd pass it on in case anyone else may be looking for a trans.

Man, I thought when I was selling my stock 80E for $1100 with a 4,900 converter that was a good deal.. Yet no one jumped on it.

Was yours a 6l80e or a 4l80e? If it was the 6 speed then people are dumb for not jumping on it at that price. They are $2999 plus a $1000 core charge.
A 4L80e on the other hand can be had from $500-$1000 used depending on milage and condition.

You do realize the 6L80E have a seperate Transmission Control Module (TCM) and are not controlled by the ECM.

They are a pretty good transmission, but I think they aren't as efficient as a 4L60E. My G8's gas mileage isn't that great, when I think it should be better. I think most of this is due to the 6L80E....but I'm not sure.

I will be running the MAST m90 controller which will not need the seperate trans controller, so I'm good there. I am somewhat basing my build off their shop truck, which is a l92 575hp and the 6l80e and they make get around 17-20 MPG on the highway and run in the mid 11's. Sounds good enough to me.

And in actuality I was gonna have to get a controller to run my 4l80e which was gonna be about $500 and I got the 6l80 for $1k so if I make enough on my trans to offset the difference, I will break even or come out ahead.

Edit: I mis-spoke, they have the 6l90e in their truck.

Nice score. I saw that up for sale at pt.net. I can't wait to swap an LY6 into my '08.

Yeah that's my basic plan too, I have either a Lq4 or Lq9 (haven't seen the pistons yet, but I assume Lq4 to be on the safe side) but I bought the VVT parts to do a retrofit and will be swapping to rectangle port heads, so I will have a LY6 clone lol. But it will be an identical engine.

Not a fan of them. My wife's car has them and the only time I ever use them is when I accidentally bump one while turning. They are more of an inconvenience if you ask me. Always fun to accidentally up shift while making a turn and being stuck in a higher gear and not being able to accelerate like you want to.

Re: Found a good deal on a 6l80e....

Just talked to the guy again this morning and he said the buyer for his L92 backed out. So that's gonna be mine too! I'm driving down to pick them both up on sat. Wish I would have found these before I bought my lq4/4l80e setup. Oh well guess I just have to get rid of those...

So that's whose LQ4/4L80E I found on Craigslist today! I wish I had the money to pick it up right now.
