HO110 has been found
Hi everybody, Ive been away from the forum for some time sled pulling.
I scored a real 1947 GM HO110, its in the driveway. It's an odd one with 10 bolt hubs, a flange type axle shaft like a modern pickup truck, a pickup sized hub where it goes through the wheel, and a bolt on rear cover. It's housing is 18" tall or so at the center, it would take 3-4 burly guys to pick it up. 750 LBS easy. It's so massive compared to the HO72, I think people will need pictures just to understand. The HO72 is one strong axle but this is comparable to the rockwell 106 all around. We actually compared it to the 106 as the guy I bought the 110 from had a 106 right there. This is a beast of an axle for sled pulling. The ring gear OD is 12.25", the third member weighs 150ish LBS 6.17 ratio, 1 5/8" axle shafts. Does anyone know of some old pullers who may know which Eaton axle gears may fit? The DS34, DS38, AND S130 ring gears look very very similar. The S130 has a 12.2" published ring gear OD. I would like it to be 4.88 ratio, not one used by GM.

EDIT: It is actually an H110
Sorry, I'll try to get some pics up later today. I did get the oem 15-18" drum brakes pulled off of it, the original owner fiddled with them for years trying to get them off. I really dont have a choice but to put disk brakes on the hubs and make it 8 lug. Anybody ever see an 8 lug on 6.5" bolt circle disk rotor with a 5.5" center hole? They don't have to be from a GM application. I have some 72-76 dana 44 rotors here, the center hole is bigger than the newer style rotors but still only 5 inch or so. My oh my how big the parts in this thing are, and where is the offroad aftermarket... C L U E L E S S

Its not the biggest axle in the GM "H" series, there is an H135 and an H150 that I remember. The H110 is in the grey area of axles the ring gear is bigger than the rockwell 106, the axle shafts are basicly the same size, Yet it was available in a one ton pickup! A Dana 80 37 spline inspired axle should fit the spindle if the side gears could be reworked. Production was from 46-81 (that I can verify) the rockwell (106?) takes its place in 82 on the step vans 10 and 6 lug hubs were available Some had splined flange end axles, others were typical bolt on earlier models had bolt on sheet metal rear covers, except for the M135/M211duece which had a beefy cast iron ribbed front cover (the only way to make it cooler would have been to cast THIS SIDE TOWARD ENEMY into it.) later axles appear to have welded on covers as the GM parts manual shows no service part for the rear cover in 81 Two gear ratios, 6.17 and 5.43 (not so common) Gears might interchange from an eaton axle which would make for a nice gear spread Used in one ton pickups with DRW and optional 11,000 GVW up till 1968 Used in the GMC M135, M211 Duece and a half (front and rear). I am real curious about the shaft joint design used on the steer axles in those dueces. There are closed knuckle. Used in step van (king?) 11,000 GVW up till 1982 (these had bendix disk brakes very similar to a dana 60 front) It appears they were used in 40-60 series trucks as well

NE, NewEngland area so yes the northest.
I cant confirm one since I ve only seen them and never taken one a part but according to that Pirate link 5.13's were offerd. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showp...4&postcount=20 If you look at the last Pic in that post it shows the number 7-36 stamped into the 3rd memeber head. So if its anything like its smaller brother axle's the HO52/72 then it should be stamped, the gear ratio. http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showp...&postcount=135 That other one was a post int he HO72 thread on Pirate and it shows the only one gear option for the 110. Off topic but it does show a 5.83 axle ratio for a HO72, I would love to find a set of them Jason.

GM offered 2 ratios for the H110 (to partially credit the guys over on pirate), most axles will have 6.17's. However, some of the later axles (1980's era) had 5.43's (and disk brakes). GM lists a ring and pinion that ratio for 1982 P30. There is a guy not too far into Missouri with a 70's dodge power wagon (440 stage 5 hemi) that runs an H110 in the rear with 5.43's. He said it leaked the oil out over one winter in storage and chewed up some parts running oiless the next season. He claims to had a heck of a time finding another 5.43 third member. The last HO72 ratio is a super oddball one year only deal ('63, something about a 3 speed manual with C30, if I remember right) the ratio is actually 5.38. Never seen a set yet. One thing is certain, right now the HO72 and H110 are virtually unknown outside GM circles. They are proving themselves in competition applications and rapidly gaining popularity.

It was the same number code I see on the HO52/72 3rds and this one was 7-36 witch is the code used for the 5.13 ( well GM calls it a 5.14 ). I agree I allways take internet info with a grain of salt, I like to see first hand then I can say for sure. Jason.
