Charcoal Grey Pics?

My truck is in need of a paint job. Thinking about going charcoal grey instead of red. Any pictures of some charcoal grey trucks?

Re: Charcoal Grey Pics?

Mine was charcoal gray for a while. Been trying to find pics of it then, but haven't been able to dig any up yet. It looked GREAT!

Re: Charcoal Grey Pics?

I bet it did...Charcoal Grey is my favorite color for a truck. I just don't know how much extra it is going to cost to get it changed from red. It depends on how much more it will cost to change the color versus going back red.

Re: Charcoal Grey Pics?

Painting all the jambs and inside the bed (or getting a spray in liner) will more than double the cost of a paint job. A normal paint job does not require removing the fenders, hood, doors etc and changing colors does. Well I should add if it's done right it involves all that. You could always roll the windows down and just start painting.

I was afraid of that. The only reason I am considering it is because I am putting a cowl hood on it so it will not be red, I am having the engine bay painted black this week while putting the 6.0 LQ4 in. I am also going to have a spray in bed liner done soon so there isn't going to be much left to do for the paint swap I don't think? I could be wrong though since I know nothing about painting.

Re: Charcoal Grey Pics?

You'll want the fender lips the color of the exterior, then you have inside on the doors, the inside of the door frame (pillars and rocker etc) and then the dash itself inside the cab. The back panel of the cab also shows on the interior of these trucks, so that'd be your call on if you wanted it the correct color or not. When you back up and look at what all is "body color", there is a lot.

It is better to save up money and do it right the first time. I learned my lesson. I had to get the first paint job fixed.

Here's a couple. I wish I could give you a paint code, but my painter never gave it to me and I never thought to ask. I wanna say it is a late model GM color like the charcoal silver they use on the new trucks.

Depending on the condition of the original paint, it's gonna be tough to match the original red on the new cowl hood. It will stand out against the older paint on the rest of the truck. I would definitely take the time to jam everything out and do the interior as well. It doesn't take long to pull the dashpad, instrument panel, guages, door panels, and bench out. Heck, you could have the interior stripped pretty quick. Do yourself a favor and do it right the first time! Good luck with the LQ4 Swap too - i'm jealous!

Re: Charcoal Grey Pics?

I definitely want to do it right the first time and I want a good paint job. I have cut corners on this truck before and it bit me in the end. This time, I'm going to do it right. I just can't decide if I want to go through the trouble of changing colors. I like red too, just partial to charcoal grey.

Buck - that is a sweet truck! That is exactly the color I was thinking. I'm hoping this lq4 turns out better than the last motor I put in it. Of course, I was still a teenager then and thought I knew everything lol

SC C10 - I didn't even realize they came factory that color, that is good to know. I like the duallys, they are different and you don't see many in that good of shape anymore.

I agree with what was said earlier about color swaps. They're a huge pain and are much more costly than a "simple" repaint. But if your heart is set on grey/charcoal, then so be it. Here's a pic of my daily driver:

Re: Charcoal Grey Pics?

Those trucks look good. I am not set 100% on grey. I like red too but it just seems every time I turn around in my town, the nice squares are all red. It is a little hard to be different these days. At least when I pop the hood with the 6.0, that will be a little different around my area.

Man if it wasn't so much trouble to switch colors, and I wasn't keeping my air force blue on mine, it'd be this color! thats beautiful!

Re: Charcoal Grey Pics?

That's the color I want to do my C-10 when I'm ready too.......... My truck is currently yellow with thick metal flake and I'm not going to leave it that way....... it's just the way I bought it.If anybody can tell me the exact name of that color or the color code I would really appreciate it.

Re: Charcoal Grey Pics?

What year is the truck? If it is 81- up, you could do a two tone from the body line up. This way, the jambs could be left alone and not look funny.

It is an 85. I never thought about that. This is what the truck looks like right now. It is pretty dirty from sitting under trees for several years and you can see the problem with the clear coat coming off. I just finished putting the drop kit on and getting ready to put the 6.0 in hopefully next week.
