Garage Floor Epoxy

Who has done it? Any tips? Prefered brand?

We are building a new shop and I want to do it before I get oil and grease all over it.

Decades ago, Varathane had a coating called Flecto Varathane...probably the grandfather
of todays better coatings. My uncle was a distributor and my dad used it in our basement.
Tough as nails. As with todays better epoxies, "chips" were embedded in the finish.

I know GACO makes a product for helipads. Definitely a professional product but, unfortunately,
only available to licensed installers. I tried to get it for a customer a few years back and GACO
refused to sell it to us.

Professional grade coatings would be a worthwhile investment I would think (vs. home center brands).

I sis my garage a couple of years ago with some product I got from Home Depot. I want to say Rustoleum. Was very simple to install.. You will just need to amke sure that the floor is somewhat clean and give it time to dry. After taht you just roll it on in sections and if you want throw some of the flakes on top (evenly. I am so glad that i did mine. cause I'm always ahving somekind of oil on the floor and this makes it a snap to clean up..

Ever have a problem with ''tearing out'' from hard cranking on a weighted tire from a moveable vehicle? Curious on this, would like to coat my shop floor. Is the ''Rustoleum" reasonably priced, shop is 35x50 (1750 sq. ft.)

Last week I did half the floor with Rustoleum Epoxy Shield. I bought it at Home Depot for about $60 a kit. No one ever mentioned that there are
different die lot numbers on the can lid. To get a consistant color, you
need to mix all of the kits together before you do anything else, and
then separate them back out to their original cans. I didnt do that so
the first half of my garage has three different colors(three kits). Difference
is slight, but I notice it. Other than that, I think it looks really good. It
hasn't been "tested" yet, but I am told it holds up well.

I looked into this a while back and one thing I remember is that you do not want your concrete sealed (sprayed while concrete still wet) before using one of these coatings for maximum adhesion. You might want to ask your concrete guy about all this, I would imagine he would know any tricks about it.

Thanks for the info. I will talk to the concrete guy about it. I've read that the concrete should be wet and it should be dry. So confused. I just know I want it.

Cement dries from the ground up, depending on the mix it will be dry faster or slower. I would have it shot with bed liner instead of an epoxy because you wont slip on the liner but you can on epoxy. You can get it any color you want.

I've been looking at doing this in my garage and the product I'm leaning toward is called "Armorgarage" Military/Industrial grade - 23 mils thick
