over flow tank

Hey guys I'm looking for ideas and pics of over flow tanks in your trucks...soon I will be needing one and I need it to go with my 3 core aluminum radiator ....don't want to spend to much $$ but would like it to look good under my hood whether its stainless steel, black or whatever...

Here’s what I used for mine, it’s a black powder coated tank from Jegs. The part number is 555-51137. It is also available in polished aluminum.



It’s very compact and actually works. With the old street rod style vertical tank the radiator always had air in it and the tank was frequently empty. With the new bottle, the radiator is always kept full right to the bottom of the cap.

I don’t have a recent photo but here’s what the installation looked like before I removed the inner fenders:

markeb01 looks good...yours looks far out, how is yours mounted? I will need to mount mine on the d/s (left of the radiator) because there is no room near my battery box...

Yes mine is several inches away from the radiator support because it’s mounted to the electric fan attaching hardware. Also my washer bottle was too close to squeeze it in. If I didn’t have those items in the way it could be mounted directly to the radiator support. It’s very easy to install, having T-bolts that slide up and down in the extruded slot. This provides very flexible mounting adjustment.

Here’s what the mounting looks like in my truck. First is a side shot. The upper and lower attaching nuts can be seen to the left of the tank. I formed hard lines for both the inlet and outlet:



This is looking straight down from the top. The upper attaching nut can be seen near the center of the photo:



This close up almost shows the mounting slot, and the lower nut can be seen somewhat blurry directly below the upper nut:



And I remembered wrong about the mounting bolts. They aren’t T-bolts, they’re standard 1/4x20 bolts so you can use whatever length best fits your application. Here’s a rather crappy shot of the slot showing the upper bolt:



And now that you've pointed it out, it would look a lot better tucked in up against the radiator support. With the inner fenders out of the way I think I'll move the washer bottle over and move it next to the radiator. Thanks for the idea!

Here's what I did. Over flow tank and windshield washer all built into one. Pick N Pull on 1/2 price weekend these were in a varity of Ford products. Full size trucks, Explorers, Mercury Cougars, etc., etc. It looked pretty crusty when I bought it. I used the Lowe's cheap version of CLR filled the over flow part with it full stength, let it sit over night then swabbed with a rag & a screw driver followed by a spray of Armorall and it looks new. not to mention it has a built in washer pump and now I have windshield squirters too. Oh, I also got the squirt nozzels off a full size Ford truck too. I had to do a little tweeking on them to get them to spray between the cowl vents and hit the windshield in the right spot but it worked out great for me. The cut of the over flow fits our inner fenders almost perfectly. I did have to move teh horn relay and the voltage regulator to the other side of the radiator support but I was able to use the exact same mounts & mounting holes so I didn't even have to drill any new holes for that part.

Here's what I did. I used an alluminnum water bottle I got for free from a place I eat lunch . And used a bike water bottle holder that I bought for a dollar at the swap meet. Cheap and effective!! And works perfectly!

I thought your pictures look pretty nice, so I picked the same reservoir myself so I could play around with it. I like how it consolidates both radiator overflow and window washer fluid and has plenty of capacity and even looking like it fits in the space pretty well. I'd prefer to keep the washer fluid and pump in the engine bay, rather than passing back and forth into the cab too.

So anyway, I don't use an external voltage regulator, nor a remote mounted horn relay so those won't be a problem. But what I don't see in your pictures or your post is what you did with the horn. I thought maybe you came up with a slick relocation of that too. Can you share? Do you have any photos?

argonaut, Here's the pics you asked for. I grabbed a pair of horns off a 73 or so C-10 flattened the brackets (I might have had to drill new holes in the original mounting brackets to make them work - I just can't remember for sure) I used some factory mounting points to mount the horns. They cleared the cross support rods with no problems. For the horn relay I simply moved it to the other side of the radiator support and used the stock mounting points for it. Hope this info is of some help.

Sorry so late I missed this one......60-63 radiators I believe are mounted on the sides of the radiator to the core supports..

Update!.. found me a coolant resevoir bottle from a Ford New Holland tractor.. Cut and fabbed mounting bracket and mounted it to a hole on the front lower battery box hold down assy.. I looks like it goes there.. sorry for the poor looking phone pics..
