Silverado Seats

I want shoulder harnesses for my 66. My buddy put these style seats in his 72 blazer. Anyone know if they will go into our trucks?

Re: Silverado Seats

If your not 6.4 pushing 300 pound like me then they are fine, however I didnt like them in my truck so I gave them to my son.

Re: Silverado Seats

I've got them in my truck, and they work very well. Definitely not a ton of legroom, but they do the trick and are very comfortable.

Re: Silverado Seats

I agree very comfortable, but you need to be 5 ft 8 inch and under or your too big, not enough leg room then.

Re: Silverado Seats

Thanks guys. Would be great for my skinny backside but I have friends that are not quite the pep-squeak that I am and may need the leg room my stock bench provides.

Re: Silverado Seats

I'm 6'3, and I don't find it much worse at all than the factory bench. Very much a personal preference issue.

Thanks and I just spent the last hour reviewing your build. Very nice work. Beautiful country too. I have had the pleasure of visiting Montana a few times. Lived in Spokane for a few years. I hope to do a frame off in about to years. Saving my $$$ now. I will be using your build for reference without a doubt.

Re: Silverado Seats

Glad to hear it! Good luck with your project. Montana is a great place to live. I'm originally from Missoula, not far from Spokane. This site is such a great reference. I couldn't have finished my project without the knowledge I gained here.

Re: Silverado Seats

I had a set of those and no matter how I tried I couldn't get them to work - I'm 6'3". I also tried the original bench and it was the same. I finally ended up using a bench seat out of an 88-94 chevy truck. The seat and back are contoured so that you sit back in the seat farther. I feel like I'm getting an extra 2 or 3 inches.

Thanks for the advice. I am 5'8" I have a buddy with a 2001 Chevy with this style seat. He is going on a trip for a couple weeks and said if I do the work I can test them out in my truck while he's gone. I am hoping they work for the shoulder harness they have in them .

Re: Silverado Seats

Here is what I have done. My seats came from a 02 Silverado ext cab. I like that the seatbelt is built into the seat, but the headrest is too high and hits the back of the cab, and so does the seatbelt thing. The headrest covers a lot of the rear window also, which I would rather have not showing in the window at all. It is very limited how far you can put the seat back, before it hits the back wall. Also, the seat belt thing touches the cab on the outside corner, and there is a fair amount of room behind the seat on the inside. I have to reupholster my seat anyways because it is the wrong color, so I didn't feel so bad cutting it apart. I took the headrest off entirely, and am moving the seatbelt thing down lower into the seat. After taking the upholstry apart at the top, I cut 4 3/4 inches out of the frame tube that the seatbelt guide sits in. I cut a pie shape out of the front of the tube, and leaned it ahead, then tacked it. Also had to drill a new hole where the bolt goes through the seat roller assembly. Then put the plastic cover back on to see how it lines up.

Re: Silverado Seats

There will have to be a strong brace welded back in, but I just want to establish the position it sits first. I have the roller assembly fairly close to where it will be, and am kind of folding the old material and taped it to show how it will be. In the one pic you can see how high the seatbelt roller used to sit. It will be sort of a low back bucket seat now, and there is a HUGE difference in how far the seat will go back, and how much further it can lean back.

Re: Silverado Seats

I'm only 5'10" but the seat needed to go back more, especially using the stock steering wheel and column. The last pic shows with masking tape how high it used to be. I've talked to my upholstry guy, and showed him this, and he is fine with it. He says he can put new foam in where it is needed. I still have to move the position of the tube that holds the seat belt roller a little more, but I think we can make it work. When sitting in the seat the seatbelt comes out just above my shoulder and doesn't go uphill, which would irritate your shoulder after a while. A few adjustments now, and weld in the new brace. Then save some cash to get it reupholstered. It wont stick out into the window opening from the headrest, and is much more comfortable going back further and leaning back more.

Re: Silverado Seats

rustbucket. This is great info. I just walked around our U Pull junkyard and there aren't any seats right now but the guy there told me they get these in a lot. Not always in the greatest shape. I was planning to have to redo the seats anyway. this is even better.

Re: Silverado Seats

Clyde-I'm glad to hear that these seats work for someone else tall.

The other advantage of having these seats is the matching console with cupholders!

Re: Silverado Seats

FYI;
I have the power seats and the motors take up just about all the space under the seats, so if you want to use this space...... Check your set-up with manual operation! I think they will leave you more room under the seats!

Re: Silverado Seats

I have the manual seats in mine and there is quite a bit of room under the seats for storage or an amp for a stereo. Also my seats came out of an extended cab, not a 4 door, and the back of the seat will fold all the way forward. This is good for getting access to behind the seat if you want to get something in or out of there. The 4 door trucks and the suburbans only allow the seat to fold ahead a couple of inches, so either a standard cab or extended cab have the feature of the seat folding all the way ahead. One more thing with manual is you can move the seat all the way forward in a second by just pulling the lever, which gives even better access to behind the seat.
