Oil and Temp guage

Hey guys,

I just have a few couple questions on my truck I haven't really worried about it, as my truck has seem to run fine, and still is.

It's a SBC 305 with headers and true dual exhaust, my question is my temp gauge isn't even working, and I was going to put new gauges but changed my mind and I had taken a few gauges out. One was my oil PSI gauge, well now that's reading when the truck is off at 60 and when I turn it on and it starts to warm up it'll go read up to 120 which I know for a fact is a misread because it was working fine until I had pulled the gauges.

My question is how can I trace to check if my temp gauge works, and same for my oil pressure gauge? Thanks for all the help in advance fellas you guys rock and are always so helpful.

For the temp gauge: Put you green temp wire to the frame a have someone look at your gauge if it pegs. If so, you sensor is probably shot. If not, it can be the wire or the gauge. Run down your wire or do a measure.

For the oil gauge. It can be that the pointer has been touched. Try gently to push it back to it's 0 position when the engine is off.

Okay, well let me ask this where is the green temp wire supposed to go on the motor because since I've owned it, that's been coming up on a year now it's not ever worked so that's why I'm asking on that?

when my 78 cluster swap both had power and no senders yet
the oil was high when the sender was off
temp stayed low when the sender was off
I'd start checking the power back there look for the +and - for the cluster
you can see issues my 79 4X4 had with rusty connections
and bent paths

I really think my temp gauge is bad or the wire has burned up somewhere, reason I'm lead to believe this is because I do have a single green wire that has like an end cap on it and I've put it to my block and ran my truck it didn't move one bit, so I'm thinking either the wiring or gauge is completely bad.

The green wire supposed to go to the sensor in the drivers side head, between cylinder 1 and 3.

Thanks man that's the exact wire I'm talking about looks like I'll replace the gauge and run a new wire for it, thanks again remon!
