Anyone get a radiator from....

Classic Chevy Parts or Tucker's?

Advance Auto and NAPA no longer carry radiators for our vintage of truck.....so....anyone get one from the two vendor's above?

I am pretty sure I have a 1 row (250 3 speed, no ac) and if I step up to a 3 row, I don't mind getting new brackets but I'd hate to have to modify the radiator core support.

THANKS.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Anyone get a radiator from....

Wow man,

Thanks! Will save me about 20 bucks and might save me more as it states "qualifies for free shipping" but there are no such stores where I am in WV (to my knowledge).

Now the website lists the radiator on the left as "fitting a 1972 truck" like mine but it's a 4 row.....will I have to modify my core support to get that to fit?

I agree-I would be shocked if the parts stores stopped carrying these radiators. The basic core is used through the '70s in a whole lot of GM cars and trucks. Get a better counter guy at your local store.

Re: Anyone get a radiator from....

I got a 4 row from O'Rielly's also.I don't recall seeing any but a 4 row but that's what I was looking for.If you go to 4 row it's just a few minutes and a pair of channel locks or vise grips and a drill to swap the mounts.I'm planning on A/C down the road so I wanted the 4 row to step up the cooling for when that happens.

I got mine from LMCtrucks, upgraded to a 4 row, good quality and no issues for the last 3 years.

You need new 4 core support brackets & pads for the top & bottom. Any of the vendors should have them. They are just slightly longer than the 2/3 core brackets. You will also most likely have to modify your radiator support as well. No big deal, you just bend down the lip on the support so the longer 4-core bottom brackets can bolt down flush to the support. You could probably use your current brackets but the radiator wouldn't sit down where it should. I would install the 4 core brackets myself.

Re: Anyone get a radiator from....

i got a decent 4 core from advance 3 mo. ago. there web site and online people would only show me a aluminum rad that was around 6 bills that was for a 67-72.
searching the web site myself i found one that was the right size and looked correct.
so i asked about it. an the guy said "that dont fit your truck".
well I thought differnt.
turns out my local store had one in stock.
paid for it online useing a promo code.went too check it out an picked it up.
fit perfect, looked good(ecxept it has one extra bung below the rad cap on the tank)and it has those straps around the core.that dont bother me.
but i must say that its not as heavy duty as a harrison.
but for $215.00 i hope i dont get burned by yet another low quality part.

so advance does have them but you gotta search it out.
i can find the part # for ya if you want it.

Re: Anyone get a radiator from....

Rock Auto sells several different radiators. They may all be 4 row.
One is Spectra Premium, which I seem to recall reading positive comments about on this forum.

The extra bung is to send the return hose back to instead of on top of the water pump. This makes the heater work faster. Used on the 73-87 trucks and vans.

Thanks guys....have to keep after it I suppose.

For the last poster.....if you want to sell a radiator, or "donate" it, I will pay shipping.

Re: Anyone get a radiator from....

I got a 4 row from autozone. It was way cheaper having it delivered to the house than picked up at the store. They have free shipping on anything over $99 and they did 20% off fathers day weekend for online orders....It is a Spectre brand. Brass tanks, nice radiator and fit perfect.

Re: Anyone get a radiator from....

Well, this one seems to be in stock only a few miles away! I guess I'll try and grab it today.

It's a 3 row...will that fit right into a 1 row bracket? I think my 1972 250 3 speed manual, no AC has a 1 row.

What say you guys? 1 row now you think? It's all stock.

I don't think they made a 1 row, it would be a 2 row. I think the 2 row and 3 row use the same brackets.

Well I picked up the radiator. Is it a good time to go ahead and get a water pump and thermostat like the box suggests?

I would, and all the hoses if you haven't replaced them recently.

Re: Anyone get a radiator from....

I'd bet all those hoses, belts, and everything else is at least as old as 1991!

Once again, is Advance Auto/NAPA good for these parts?
