1989 under dash wiring issue

I just got this truck a couple of weeks ago, none of the dash gauges work. Since it is a nice day, I thought I'd start figuring out why.

Hmm, this doesn't look right...

I go to look at my '94 suburban

Yep, definitely more wires

Now, what to do?
Some questions for the more experienced in this forum...

Where can I find a schematic for the under dash wiring?
Should I piece it back together, or try to find a complete harness that is still good and possibly affordable?
Are all those gauges really necessary to the driving experience anyway?

And a shot of both trucks, just for the heck of it.

Wow that looks all screwed up! Whoever owned it before you really hacked into that. Maybe try an piece it together but if you can't I would just find a new harness from a junk truck.
