Reverse drill bits and long drill bits?

Reverse drill bits seems to be a rare tool. Can anyone suggest a good set to have? I like lots of sizes.

I also would love to have a set of drill bits where each bit is several inches long. I know Lowes sells individual bits of like 8" but I'd like to have a set where each one was like 6 inches long, even down to a 1/16". Does anyone know of such a set?

Try a machining supply house like MSC. Or maybe McMaster-Carr.

Re: Reverse drill bits and long drill bits?

The biggest issue is that a 1/16 drill bit that was 6 inches long would break constantly. The smaller bits get shorter so they don't wobble and because they are less likely to break. You need to look for left handed drill bits not reverse. They should be readily available. I know Snap On has them because I own a set from them.

Re: Reverse drill bits and long drill bits?

what do you use left handed bits for??? undrilling a hole?

i worked construction for many years and have many long drill bits in my collection
some 9'' and some 12'' long; 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4 have never seen a full set just individual bits
many are electricians bits for chasing wires through headers
and then there's my 18'' long 7/8'' auger bit for running romex, made for wood but it cuts nails and anything else in it's path
harbor fright has a lot of 25'' long wood bits and sets

Re: Reverse drill bits and long drill bits?

I agree with the post above, the smaller sized 6" long bits will break frequently.

I think they are commonly used when you want to drill a broken bolt out. Sometimes the bit "catches" and the bolt comes out while drilling.

That's exactly right. Running the drill in reverse and the bit cutting in a lot of times will extract the bolt without the need for an ez out.

Re: Reverse drill bits and long drill bits?

We get all of our drilling consumables from Lawson. They have Left ones. The best for removing broken bolts.
