Removing Air Conditioning

I would like to remove the A/C from my 1970.

Does anyone know of a thread with photos to show how to? It doesn't have a compressor so it's virtually useless to me.

I've searched for a few days and no threads. So can you guys help me? Thanks.

I don't think too many guys would pluck out an ac system so you might be on you're own with this one. Personally I'd find a compressor and get it working.

Problem is that I'm doing a slam. The A/C will get in the way too much and honestly the last guy messed it up so bad it's barely even fixable. It'd be worth more to someone who can use the A/C, as I don't normally use it even on my DD.

I would agree with getting a compressor rather than removing, but to answer your question- start in the engine bay first. I don't mean to sound sarcastic or rude but it's simple mechanics if that makes sense. There's no tricks or gimmicks to removing. You will have to pull your hood and your inner fender to remove the box. Once you remove the engine bay components you will need to disconnect the cables and pull the defrost and ac hoses. Remove the ac glove box and remove the bolts for the inner box. You will be left with a gaping hole and no heat or defrost. The other option is to purchase an ac delete box which keeps your heater but loses the ac specific components.

I too say fix it (I don't know what a slam is). I guess you could sell the leftover parts.

Keep in mind that AC cabs are different. Not just the holes in the dash, I believe the firewall openings are very different for the AC box vs. standard Heater box. So you're likely going to have to keep the AC box anyway, which will look weird. Unless you're going to the point of reworking the metal on the firewall...

Pretty simple, just unbolt and remove everything from both sides of the firewall,fab up some plates to smooth the firewall,box everything up and send it to me...
