DTC code 54, fuel pump relay

Hello everybody I have a 94' gmc sierra 2500 4wd with 350 Tbi/auto. My truck has been acting a little weird lately. It seems to not want to start as easily as it used to. Its also sputtering when trying to start first thing. Also sometimes when I'm shifting from drive to park it'll just die completely. I noticed recently that it feels a bit sluggish going up hill and it was while I was driving uphill that the check engine light came on. I checked it and it was a code 54. Does anybody have any experience with this particular code? I just don't have a lot of time and money to be spending chasing my tail. My thought is that it's either the fuel pressure regulator, or the fuel pump is starting to go out. Any input is appreciated.
