69 blazer disk brake swap?

buddy has a 69 k5 blazer 4x4, and wants to do a disk brake swap. anyone know of any complete kits for it? he'd like to do front and rear both. was thinking of swapping the front axle to a newer one but read somewhere they were wider.

Re: 69 blazer disk brake swap?

I'm pretty sure that pickup d44 front axles are wider than blazers in the 60-72 years. But even if that is the case, no one will know but you.

Although another option would be to get the disk brake axle and then swap everything from the knuckles out onto your axle housing. You'll also need to use your inner axle shafts connected to the disk stub shafts. Great opportunity to install new ball joints and new u-joints.

For the rear 12 bolt, there are many kits to adapt small calipers. Don't buy the kit that CPP sells, it doesn't fit well in my experience.

Re: 69 blazer disk brake swap?

if the truck axle is wider, the inner axles would be longer too. hows that gonna work? so cpp stuff dont work? hmm. was looking to get a kit so its quick and painless to do.

Re: 69 blazer disk brake swap?

What you said is correct. That's why I suggested what I did.
Use your blazer axle housing and inner axle shafts. Use the outer shafts, knuckles, spindles, hubs and rotors from a disk brake axle.

Re: 69 blazer disk brake swap?

It's not that the CPP stuff won't work. I bought it and made it work on my 2wd 12bolt. But it wasn't a good design, and I had to spend more money to make the parts work correctly, and the CPP folds wouldn't help.

Re: 69 blazer disk brake swap?

can't swap later disc brake outer stubs, the ujoint sizes are different. so you gotta swap inners also, which means custom. guess we're gonna have to swap the whole axle out.

Re: 69 blazer disk brake swap?

If he just wants a normal truck a 10 bolt front is fine,If he wants a off roader id think hard about a dana 60 gm or early dodge will do.
