Thanks for the response. I just went out and measured mine on my 71. It is closer to 16". They must have changed for the 72 model.

OK, this most likely is from the last 72 I took apart.

I have a 72 suburban I will measure tonight and let you know

So I measured from the fuel tank to inner fender. They seem to be 16", but I will have to remove them this weekend and clean them up.
