Aftermarket Flexplate cover

I'm wanting to buy an aftermarket TH350 flexplate cover as my stocker is getting pretty worn out. finding a number of different ones on Summett, Jegs, Flea bay and amazon but also reading in the reviews that some have fitment issues.

If you have bought an aftermarket unit for a TH350 could you tell me which one and if you were happy with it or what modifications you had to do to make it fit?

Re: Aftermarket Flexplate cover

I can't help with part numbers unfortunately. The first one I bought was a chrome aftermarket cover that I bought from a guy on Craigslist. He said he bought it from Summit and claimed he had it installed on his 69 C10. He had trimmed it near the starter, but I could not get the holes to line up, and the flywheel contacted the inside of the cover.

The 2nd one I bought from a member parting out a truck here, on the parts board. It was supposedly an OE factory steel piece (it did appear to be), but I still had the same issue with holes not lining up and it contacting flywheel. Since then I've been afraid to buy another one lol!! I must be doing something wrong, or maybe I keep getting covers intended for the TH400?

if holes don't line up I use what is called an electric drill and make appropriate adjustments then if it's hittin somewhere I use what is called a dermal tool to make it not hit anything

Well smart ass i was reading reviews about how some of these are twisted badly coming out of the hydropress and no matter how much they tried to straighten then they ended up hitting the flex plate, just wanting to avoid that and not have to do a return ship, is that too much to ask? i really would not want to use a dremel ( NOT DERMAL ) to grind a hole in the body of the thing to clear flex plate teeth, kinda defeats the purpose.

Re: Aftermarket Flexplate cover

Shots fired, shots fired!! Everyone stand down!! Lol

We're just trying to find out if there's a piece that is a direct replacement, when there's a known, common issue with the replacement parts not fitting properly.

Since I've had no luck with the ones I've picked up, I've figured my only options are to modify and shim to get one on, or just go without one.

Would be nice to hear from anyone who's found one that fits correctly (if such a one exists...)

Re: Aftermarket Flexplate cover

Do you think they are still available through a GM dealer? Mine is the thick plastic one and fits great. I assume it is OEM, but maybe not. Just thinking the TH350 was used on a lot of vehicles and the dealer still might carry them.
Edit: I checked RockAuto....nada.

I don't have any experience with the aftermarket choices, I personally would just go grab a factory piece from the wrecking yard.

Thanks for the information! I went to gm parts direct and they wanted more for shipping than for the part.. went to Flea bay and ordered it with free shipping but slightly higher price for the part, close enough..

I think anyone who can grab a wrench has the skill to install a flex-plate cover, if they've never put a part on in their life. There is only one flex-plate cover on a vehicle and only one TH350 case. There is no reason a flex-plate cover made for a TH350 shouldn't fit on all TH350s in any vehicle. GM ones do. The issue here is the aftermarket part is crap and the tool required to fix it is a trash can

Yea i get it and i'm fully capable if much more than installing a flexplate cover, did i ever say i had not done it before?? A wrench would be a pita in my opinion, i'll stick to a long extension and socket.

If ya read my posts you will see i just wanted to buy a possibly better replacement cover after reading reviews that some of the aftermarket stuff was crap, that and figuring a stock replacement was no longer available..

The only reason one stock GM TH350 cover may not work with another GM TH350 is when ya got a standard case and a K case. Knowing now that an original GM part number is available for the cover its a non issue.

As i just posted i went ahead and ordered the number that was just posted. End of discussion.

I read the entire thread. Who pissed in your Cheerios? You should know that when someone quotes a post, then posts a reply, it means they are responding to that post. Oh wait, you just quoted me because you were responding to me, so you already knew that. Just Chill out then...sheesh! BTW, are you saying you just grab and turn the extension and socket with your hand or do you fasten that to a WRENCH?
