Heater Box Hardware help

Hey I am going through my pail of hardware and I can't remember what the proper hardware is for securing the Outer and Inner Heater boxes to the firewall. It has been too long since I took it apart and I have lost some of the pictures I took. So help me out. What is the screws used and any pictures would be a bonus. Thanks for the help, Jeff.

1/4" speed nuts for the studs and I think #10 or #12 hex head sheet metal screws for the others. Here is a picture of what they look like. There is one screw missing in the picture.

Ok. I found those in one of the cups. What about the inner box. Is the screws coming out through the firewall holding it in place similar?

the bolts on the inside look much the same as the ones that bolt the outer box to the firewall. You also need the 3 little push clips (sorry no pics) that attach the "heater controll cables' to the flapper doors, I lost two of mine and could not find a replacement and ended up using 2 small zip ties to secure the heater control cables to the flapper doors.

Here is what the clips look like. They are the same on both ends of the cables. This is the tool I use to get the clips off of the posts. Just work your way around the post pushing up on the inside and they will come off without breaking them.

I bought some new I found on ebay. Hope they are the correct size.

These are the four bolts and nuts that mate the heater and a/c boxes.

Hey where does the long one go? and should there be one or two of the long ones. I found 2 like that in my cup o' screws.

I’ve only seen the gasket sets, but you can probably piece together the hardware from the info on this thread.

Check out Classic Parts of America, page 87 for the heater cable retainers. .15 ea. They have parts for the hand controls, also have heater box for non A/C. if interested.

My old truck has been sitting for years, if I want to go in and just check the heater box for critters, and rats nests, what's the best approach? It's an AC truck. Do i open the outside part or go under the dash and open it?

To get to the inside of either heater box you pretty much have to disassemble the whole thing. You can check the incoming side of the system by removing the plastic cap plug on the right side of the interior box (where the control cable goes into the box (see picture)). If it is cold out heat the plug up a little with a heat gun or the wife's hair dryer. (don't tell her I told you this) I have even cleaned them out through this hole with a piece of stiff wire with a small hook bent on the end of it to drag out the big chunks and a shop vac.

Edit: Not sure if the A/C trucks have the same thing or not. I've never had a complete one, just bits and pieces. You may be able to clean the whole system out from the inside on those.
