dropped spindles help

I have a 1968 c10 that has disc brakes in the front. I want to install dropped spindles but, do not know what year spindles to order. I
do not know what the previous owner used for upper & lower A arms
to use disc brakes.
any help would be appreciated.

Re: dropped spindles help

Have they definitely changed the control arms? I am unsure on what year trucks the spindles are off but summit sell a few spindles specifically for disc brakes on 67-72 trucks. bought mine off eBay and they bolted straight up to the original arms.

Re: dropped spindles help

If it was done correctly, they changed to the disc spindle ball joint. I would buy the spindles you want and just buy the correct ball joints and that should fix any incompatiblity issues.

There are also concerns about the steering too. The tie rod ends aren't the same. No big deal, just saying it's more than swapping four ball joints.

I too, found that the tie rod ends can be different. I used the correct ball joints and tie rods and still had to trim some metal off the very end of my lower control arms, not much at all, but still had to do it(it was rubbing the inside of my stock 15" rally wheels) The '71-'72 lower control arms have a different bump stop bracket than the 67 to 70 models do also.
Good luck with your drop setup!

Re: dropped spindles help

Gents, Those that have the dropped spindles, how much did the relationship of the lower ball joint to rotor move up? I know it should be simple, use 2-inch drop spindles and the rotor moves up 2-inches, but just want to make sure.
I would need to replace the current wheel to use drop spindles and want to make sure I am thinking correctly.

Can you post pics of your suspension?
I remember going back and forth with a member to find out he actually had drop spindles already.
Pics of your spindles and a-arms would be a big help.

Re: dropped spindles help

If the spindles are for 70 and older, your tie rod ends will be 5/8" with left hand threads, a true 71/72 spindle uses 11/16 right hand thread tie rods.
