1970 Bronco
Spent part of last summer trying to hunt down a classic mustang to restore for my wife, but ended up bringing this home instead. It is in pretty rough shape but they do reproduce pretty much every part for these now. I plan to drive it around some before starting on the restoration in the fall. Hope to have my dad's mustang complete by then as well so I can bring my GMC home and have both of my projects under the same roof.

Re: 1970 Bronco
First thing I did was toss out the crappy bench seat a PO put in place of the original bucket seats. Bought a set of Roush RS leather/alcantara seats for it and with a little modification they fit.

Re: 1970 Bronco
My plan is to go with a mostly stock exterior, so the wheels and tires had to go. I hunted down a set of original refinished wheels and bought 30x9.5x15s to go on them. I also have a set of original hubcaps that need a little work but were really cheap.

This will be a nice project once you evict the tin worms. She has a LOT of them but they can be cured with a 55 gallon drum of elbow grease! Can't wait to see the work

Re: 1970 Bronco
Thankfully most of the rusted stuff is all just spot welded in place so replacement should be fairly easy.

Re: 1970 Bronco
Fun and nice rigs. Should be really sweet when done.
My dad had a '69 when I was about 14-15. 289 with 3OT. My buddies and I took it on many a fishing trip in the Ozark mountains.

Re: 1970 Bronco
Ordered new quarter panels and front fenders today, ready to see if start looking like a normal bronco again. Also forgot I rebuilt the carburetor last month until I was looking at pictures. I just need a new battery and hopefully I will hear the 302 fire up.

Re: 1970 Bronco
The fronts fit fairly well, but like any aftermarket part there is some work to be done. The main area that needs work seems to be where the fender mounts near the door, it doesn't line up with the bolt holes or the door post.
I did have to cut every bolt off, they were so rusty they might as well be fused together. Also got a better look at the rust, little worse than I expected but I knew it was there. Guess that is what happens when you leave it neglected in the woods of central Alabama for years.

Re: 1970 Bronco
I picked up a 73 and it had lots of fun made into from previous owners. Just got my 302 back from the machine shop so It will have a completed rebuilt drivetrain except for the front axle. Good thing about Broncos are that you can get all the steel to rebuild the entire vehicle fairly cheap.

Re: 1970 Bronco
Nice project you’ve got there.
I’ve been working on mine off and on the last couple years. I just had to do minimal rust repair in the usual spots. Yes, the replacement sheet metal is available but it still takes a lot of patience to work on these Broncos because of all of the spot welds holding them together. Looking forward to seeing your progress! |

Re: 1970 Bronco
Hadn't planned on going EFI but when a complete intake and wiring harness came up for $50 I couldn't say no. So starting this week I'm going to start working on the wiring harness and removing everything I don't need.

Re: 1970 Bronco
Rolled it outside to reorganize the garage a couple weeks ago. I also purchased mostly complete long block out of a 97 explorer. That gives me the better flowing GT40P heads and roller block to go along with the efi I will be using. Also started working on making the efi a stand alone system, lots of cutting and rewiring ahead of me.

Re: 1970 Bronco
And that's just one portion of the harness. Thankfully I have a couple youtube videos to watch that go step by step.

I hope the youtube guy knows what he's doing. That looks like a lot of heartburn and headaches.....
