Re: 67 only 4spd boot

I am just trying to get educated here. Can you expain what makes this a 67 only 4 speed boot? The reason I ask is because I am restoring a 67 with a 4 speed. To my uneducated eye it looks like a lot of others. And does it use a painted steel trim ring/ Thanks, george

The 67 had a SM420 4 speed.
After that GM changed to the SM465
The shift towers are different.

Re: 67 only 4spd boot

Canadian - Oshawa - trucks appear to have been the place where unused SM420s ended up. I have a 1968 that has one, as well as a confusing propeller driveshaft brake that seems to have been a leftover from the 60-66 trucks.

I read this with interest, though, because it explains why my boot looks the way that it does, and it would in fact be original, I guess. I am looking for one if another comes available.

I do not know ?
I am a Big fan of 67 stuff.
I am still learning the differance of all of the Parts.

Seems like The General used what was left over in this Model change,
When it came to the transmission brake and stuff like that.

They even used the leftover paint to spray the Inside of the cab

Re: 67 only 4spd boot

Yes, Dwayne I am learning as well. The GMC 67 has differences I did not know. I found the difference though the 67 GMC I have used a NP435.
Hard to keep up with all the differences.
Thanks Russ

My truck as well, 435GA. Oval boot further back than a 420 Muncie.

435's are the most common 4 speed behind a 4X2 GMC V-6, but they were optional in straight 6 and V-8 trucks too.

Re: 67 only 4spd boot

Yes, the NP 435 uses an oval boot. Most 4X2 V-6 trucks use this transmission, but it was optional in other 4X2 trucks, including Chevy's.
