Re: Headlight Upgrades

I got the Holley Retrobright 7" in the 'Classic White' 3000k color. Low power usage and plenty of light, but still have that classic yellowish color. I was able to snag them for $340(pair) when they first came out. Wish I had bought another set for another truck...but that was a big pill to swallow.

Re: Headlight Upgrades

In May, 2020 I purchased the Dapper Lighting OE7s with the glass & LED upgrade for $320 delivered. Expensive but they look great and are top quality.

Made a little install video featuring my three little ones. Check it out here:

Halogens have been all the improvement I've felt I've needed. Do you drive your truck at night much?

This is what is going into my 70

https://cruiserteq.com/oem-toyota-ko...-elec81110kit/

Prior trucks I just added the relay harness I got from LMC. That made a huge difference. Waiting to see how much more I get from the newer bulbs & harness.

Re: Headlight Upgrades

Stayed stock lights for now, but the relays and new harness for it was a nice addition.

Re: Headlight Upgrades

When going for a stock look but upgraded light output:

1.Relay+H4 Halogens is a good option

2.The new Holley Retrobright line looks and performs well, I recently installed these on a 66 4x4 (no relay upgrade)

LED headlights do not require the relay upgrade, it won't hurt it but it's not necessary as the voltage draw is very low. I noticed no difference in LED light output when testing one of the Holley LED's on my GMC which has the relay upgrade.

Below is a link to a LED headlight upgrade/review I did way back in 2018 (with pics):
http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=755421

I have found the H4 output pattern tends to bleed (up into trees, side of road) whereas LED's have a much sharper/focused light output. The color of LED output will depend on the brand and available options (i.e. Cool white, Warm White etc.)

Re: Headlight Upgrades

SYLVANIA SilverStar drop in headlamps and a relay upgrade made a big difference on my 70. You can save a decent bit buying the headlights from amazon rather than most auto parts stores.

Re: Headlight Upgrades

I have halogens with the relay upgrade, but i really find myself using the brights nearly all the time, and they still aren't quite what the modern vehicles have on average.

I used to be a good enough guy when driving around in the city without the relay upgrade, but i live on the outskirts of farmland and work out there now. In town the lighting is more than enough with our fancy LED street lights, but out in the country, I wouldn't risk it with how crazy these farm vehicles drive.

Re: Headlight Upgrades

I have these
PHILIPS Ultinon LED H4 Bulbs Set of 2X Bulbs 6200K
I had to get a set of H4 type lamps to put them in..But they work great and very bright. We use these at work for our customers and are the only brand we like

Up into the trees seems to be a common issue with Hellas, and not a problem with the more tightly controlled beam of Cibies. Unfortunately Cibies are harder to find and more expensive.

Re: Headlight Upgrades

H4 are designed to cast light up and to the right. it is to make road signs visible! there is a split to cut light off to the left above the light level to keep it out of on coming drivers

Exactly. That's because they are made for LHT vehicles, and not the euro stuff that is RHT.
