Anyone running the Cable X?
How do you like it? Any pros or cons? Is it accurate/reliable? Thanks in advance for any info.

I am planning on aftermarket electric speedo as well, more affordable.

I have a CableX on my 6.0L swap but I haven't got it to work yet, although it works on the bench if you send it a signal.
So I hooked it up to a VSS signal wire coming from the ECM, doesn't run. Now I am thinking that you have to provide a voltage to that VSS wire to get it to pulse. So I am going to experiment with that and hope I don't blow the ECM. I think the CableX was designed to read the speed sensor directly maybe. I guess I will give them a call. I have got so many things on my punch list that one hasn't made it to the top yet. TR

I got my CableX working today with the VSS signal wire from the ECM.
The problem was that the signal from the ECM is much lower frequency than what comes from the speed sensor itself. So you have to set the pulses per mile much lower. (So if you use the pulse per mile from the sensor in the CableX the speed is too low to run the motor) I am using an E40 ECM and the speedometer is accurate when I set the pulses per mile at 1000. (I understand that mechanical speedometers are standardized to 1000 turns per mile). So evidently the ECM is putting out a 1000 pulse per mile signal. CableX seems to work fine with that. Interesting that they make no mention of this in the CableX instructions but the CableX tables allow you to set very low pulses per mile. TR

Yep, you can reset the pulses but then the ECM doesn't know the actual vehicle speed. Doesn't matter for engine operation I guess but if the pulses are correct you can read the true vehicle speed off the bus. I reset my pulses to match the new rear gear ratio and new tire size.
I use a scan gage to read the "true" speed (I have checked it with a GPS and they read exactly the same). Then I can read tank or trip MPG, distance on tank, distance to empty..... After some more checking the CableX reads pretty much dead on the correct speed up to about 50 mph, then the speedometer reads a little fast, like 4 mph fast at a true 70 mph. I think that is just the speedometer characteristic and probably a good thing. TR
