Dazzoman- Look at the article I posted up from Classic Trucks on how to proceed. (it’s hard on the eyes I know, but I haven’t been able to scan proper copies)
That was for a V8 but I think it would work for your 292 application. It’s what I read and followed to put the MY6 behind my stock GMC V6. My truck used the SM420. I had to use my stock bell housing because it’s GMC specific.
I also had a new driveshaft made and the transmission cross member I fabricated up. I have the X frame so yours should be easier.

In 1987 I had to not only get the 292 but find an regular bell housing , swap out the 305-E V6 , mounts too had to be Chevy .
You said "MY6" , what is that ? I have just bought an NP440 transmission .
Had to find ( what I hope is ) the linkage on Ebay for an 1981 Chev Van NP440 application ( acording to the seller ) .
I hope I'm not off on what I got ...
I'll take some pics of the trans but the shifter is boiling in an hot tank this weeknd , can't snap a pic .
