FYI. I just checked Rockauto and theirs is at $459.79 which is average, but still cheaper than buying it direct. They'll probably charge you shipping. If this is the kit you decide on, just search ebay #510089 and you'll find it for that price with free shipping.

another vote for AAW. i used the EZ, but i did alot of modification & an engine swap. if your just replacing it AAW all day long. i wish i would have went with them.

I have used the EZ wiring harness and thought it was easy to do I really liked it due to all the wires being laser marked every foot or so there was no mix ups
I bought a Hot rod wires from a board member for my current truck. It looks nice but yet to be installed.
Everyone says AAW is great, and by the replys you see here I would not be afraid to buy one of there kits

AAW is the closest thing you will find to NOS. It is identical in every way to the OEM harness. Plug and Play.

I did a search on this subject about a week ago after seeing the ez kit on Ebay for under $175. From the different posts I read everyone who used the ez kit was happy with it and felt it would have been unnecessary to spend 2-3x the money on a painless kit or something similar in that price range. I think maybe it might be something similar to buying a Monster hdmi cable for $100 when a no name $10 cable will perform just as well.

My thoughts:

I did AAW and it was easy...so easy I bought another kit for my crew. I read posts on how others bought a generic kit and were having issues getting the right terminals/fittings, etc.

However, it was so easy I wonder if using a generic kit would be easy, too...especially after having already rewired with an AAW kit. Plus, having the original wiring harness to steal terminals from and cross check with makes it appealing to buy a generic kit to save some cash!

This is the one thing that keeps messing with my head, I do not NEED any of the above listed products. My truck fires up and runs from Houston to New Orleans as it sits now. Only my $0.02 worth. Clear up some confusion first. Connector = the plastic housing. Terminal = the actual contact. My point: If you feel you have the skills, the E-Z harness has more than enough wire length to accommodate new (terminals), not to mention, it's a lot less $$$. The real objective is to replace all that 40 year old, brittle wiring. Most of the actual terminals are Packard 56 and can be found a lot of places. Mostly depends on the time and patience. I tend to be ANAL, so I spend way too much time on little stuff. I also take the time to install multi-pin disconnects on each major branch of circuits. I do this so I can mount the panel without wrestling all those bundles of wire. Mount the fuse panel, then run each major branch individually.

I think the extra $200 is well spent knowing that it's been done right the first time. Not that using anything less isn't, but the piece of mind knowing that everything is replaced with a new piece is there.

Regardless, you'll be using new terminals. The plastic housings don't matter so much. Having new wiring that isn't brittle is the "Plus"....less chance of shorts and in some cases less chance of fire.

Also, when you rewire you can run relays for the headlights, horn, etc... You'll get more "juice" to where you need it and have less chance of burnouts/fire/shorts, etc. It happens...

From what I have read it sounds like you have done all the hard stuff with lights, etc. If it was me I would get some good wire and terminals and update the engine compartment. Use the MadElectrical.com method and you will end up with a better system for upgrading, aftermarket accessories, brighter lights, etc. I can't remember if you have an internal regulated alt. but that works great with this system. You can't get stuff from them last I heard but look for good sxl wire (higher temp) and quality connectors and junction blocks from old GM stock that came on 70s-80s vehicles. The part # is 10098794 and you can find them in junk yards but they are only $2-3 bucks and I bought my dealer out a while back. I did this on my 72 3/4 ton and Camaro and it works great.

I initially had purchased the 21 circuit ez wiring harness as well. As I was mentally prepping for the install I started finding more and more spices, missing connectors and mismatched parts. I did my homework on the cost of all new oem connectors and decided to go with the 18 circuit AAW from MuscleRods. If I had good stock connectors to work with i would have stayed with the ez kit as the quality looked to be there, especially for the price. Sold the ez kit to a board member.

The 18 circuit wiring harness from Painless has new terminals and connectors. Most of it is allready prewired and ready for installation. You simply unplug old wiring harness and plug in new one. All wires are color coded and use the same factory colors. Wires are labeled every 6 inches telling you which wire section it belongs to and each wire has a number allowing you quickly tell where it begins and ends. Fuses are are allready pre-installed in fuse box and are the new blade style. There is a 50 amp Maxi-fuse to protect the wiring harness.

Best of all it can be had for $388 from www.jegs.com.


It actually took me more time to route the wires the way I wanted than to actually install the harness. I decided to re-wire my truck because of the old 40 plus years of the original wiring harness and to clean up all of the old hack job wiring done to it.

AAW DOES have the wires labeled all the way from fuse box to end. Here's a pic of the kit to give you an idea of what it looks like still in packages.

AAW is plug and play PAinless is a PAIN you have to do alot of but connectors, Ive used Painless on a few projects that customers supplyed and I dont like them at all. The kit for a 76 ford F250 came with a huge pile of butt connectors and list of how to singally connect each wire to each single terminal of every switch in the truck. as well but splice all the light connections. I have the correct crimpers and correct brass terminals to have done it right using the factory plug housings.
AAW is WAYYYY better you wil think you bought a factory harness. also the wire that painless used for the blower motor on this particular ford was half the size of the factory and soon overheated hence I had to fix it right

I spoke with AAW yesterday and they told me they are releasing a kit specific to 67-68 in March 2012
