Here is my carfax report

I like having this....I like knowing what was done. This was well taken care of. Only one owner and only reports were services. I wonder if dealership would offer more though I am not the original owner.

Re: Here is my carfax report

Hopefully those are all correct. Some places won't report to carfax [all penske dealers were like this till about 1.5yrs ago] and some won't put what they actually did. I just had an engine pulled from a porsche panamera for a re-seal and they only put "serviced car" on the carfax.

Still trying to find out why it was only 1200 bucks. Has less than 123 thousand miles. So far all it has needed is a new set of cats and a new trans pan gasket.

Re: Here is my carfax report

Older SUVs are like older/used RVs. They are status symbols and they loose so many status points once the next great thing comes out...or the model year goes back more than a few years...they lose a lot of value. These Suburbans use a lot of gas, so many used car buyers don't want them. It's one thing to dump tons of fuel into your status symbol. After all, that just shows you have the bucks. But, someone on a lower budget needs a better mileage, too. I just bought a '95 K2500 Suburban after searching for a good K2500 truck. What I found was, on the average, the same SUV was $1,500 cheaper than same pickup. An older high mile truck can have a useful purpose locally. Bad gas mileage doesn't matter when it's making you money, or it's saving you from spending it. Some people still think 100k is high mileage and figure they are lucky to get $1,500.

Re: Here is my carfax report

My burb still costs less because it is paid for. Not sure if you heard but recently a report came out on the Prius. They cost so much because of the gas savings "VALUE" that gasoline must be lower than 2.23 a gallon for that vehicle to actually save you money because the cost to buy it is so high. Not to mention high insurance and such even for collision coverage. I've done the math even with new burbs. , mine costs less per month to run period when compared to a newer unit. That is comparing to the 5.3 unit....And If I get the 6.0 engine, I don't save anything. The 8.1 also uses more fuel than my current one. Mine is not just a status symbol. It's a useful utility vehicle that lets me pull my trailer for camping, lets my family ride in comfort as newer models, and lets me have the same cargo space as newer vehicles. The only thing I am doing is producing slightly more bad air. And If this is about doing what's right verses saving money, than I do my part as I ride my bicycle to work and back most of the year.

Re: Here is my carfax report

All the dealer is going to do on a truck that age is send it to auction. Where it may not get more than what they are offering. So they will not offer any more than the auction estimate. Selling it out right is the best way to get any more for it. trading it in will always benefit the dealer and not you.

Re: Here is my carfax report

And that is how I got it.....dealer had an auction(large one) I got the starting bid. Most people that were there were going for the Corolla's, Civics, Camry's and Accords. Tacoma's and Grand Cherokees were also big gets that day. The Honda hybrid sold higher than its blue book. It had 19 bids.

Re: Here is my carfax report

Carfax is a scam IMHO.

I ran a Carfax on my 1993 Accord I got new when I was a junior in high school.

Wreck #1- hit a flooded (waist deep) ditch and submerged the car almost to the windows. Car was about 7-8 months old, so insurance fixed it instead of totalling it. It WAS fixed at a dealership and paid for by insurance.

Wreck #2- sorority row, was watching spandex clad females and rear ended an Izuzu Rodeo. Both healights and grill trashed, hood was V'd, new radiator. Patched it back together myself, insurance paid for Rodeo new rear bumper (had dropped full coverage at that point).

Wreck #3- Buddy borrowed my car, fishtailed into a tree, caving in left rear of the car from wheel well to rear bumper. Had to replace rear bumper and left taillight, major straightening/bondo between wheel well and rear end of car. Fixed by shadetree body guy, so can see this one slipping through the cracks.

Wreck #4- Guy purposely rammed me from behind with a Z71 with a shiny brushguard. Hit me so hard it bent my drivers seat. Had to replace rear bumper, tail lights, trunk lid, and probably had 3 gallons of bondo added in to get everything where the trunk and gas cap cover lined up and worked properly. This was reported to insurance, got check and bought totalled car back from insurance company, had shadetree bodyman patch it up, and kept driving it.

Just for grins I ran that Accord through Carfax. It showed as a one owner car with ALL GREEN CHECKMARKS. Three of those wrecks were reported to insurance, and carfax showed it was a perfectly clean, never wrecked, one-owner car.

Carfax is a joke. I wouldn't trust what it says anymore than I would some neckbearded used car salesman at a buy here-pay here dealership.

Re: Here is my carfax report

Agree ,Car Fax is a joke. Its a sales tool, nothing more. A friend had his pickup hit pretty hard. He settled with the other guys insurance .Because he settled instead of fixing it was not reported by the insurance . He fixed it himself and sold it with a clean Car -Fax.

Re: Here is my carfax report

Bought my 98 1 ton crew cab in 2002. Carfax said one owner truck never damaged ever with 43K mi.
Got hit in the pass door a month later. Body shop cried foul with insurance as there was bondo in both doors and rocker and what they called "swamp debris" in the door bottom.
Insurance company did their own search, original owner was Thrifty Rent a Car in Onterio Canada until 2000 sometime and was brought to US with 64K KM and federalized at a dealer in the Dakota's. On route to auction it ended up in some creek or river and was repaired and repainted at some independent body shop. It was sold on auction to a Minniapolis dealer and ended up here in 2002 traded in by the Minniapolis dealers son.
Now how car fax missed all that I don't know but they have a clause that says you can't sue them if the miss or make a mistake on the report. I consider them the most unreliable information network there is.

Re: Here is my carfax report

If you read the commercial "fine print", carfax reports are just that... Information in a carfax report is what is only reported to Carfax.

Nothing is required to be reported to Carfax. So, a "clean" report may only be due to what was not reported.
Carfax is a joke

Re: Here is my carfax report

People want a security blanket and Carfax came along to profit from that. I wouldn't be surprised if more money is spent on fear of the unknown than anything else, and the truth is you can never eliminate risk from life. Use your own devices, they are the best security blanket made.

Re: Here is my carfax report

The best thing is to thoroughly examine the vehicle. Whenever I look at a car or truck I'm thinking about buying, I take a jack, cordless impact, a prybar, and a light. I will spend 30-45 min looking over everything I can.

The second best thing is the big stack of papers/reciepts someone hands to you when you go to look over the car, but that rarely happens.

Well this is not an option at a auction. Only mileage and what you see outside and inside.

Look the car over. Carfax tells you absolutely nothing. If I see a carfax that says "trashed, don't buy" I might take that as plausible information. If a carfax shows all green checkmarks, I'd do just as well to take that as "been totaled 3 times" as believe that the carfax is legitimate.

It's a scam. It's no different than a used car salesman giving you his personal assurance that a car hasn't been wrecked. Might be legit, but probably isn't. Sure as hell nothing anyone with a brain would give any weight to when making a decision.

That Accord I had....it was pretty rough cosmetically, when that guy rammed me and totalled out the Accord, my insurance company lowballed me on it, which was somewhat understandable, BUT... but I had EVERY recipt for EVERY service done from new in fall of 1993 until 2005 when they guy it me. I never missed an oil change or any other scheduled maint in 15 years.

I argued that I could not find a comparable car for what they were offering, simply because I knew that car had been meticulously maintained its entire life and thus had no mechanical issues, and would be unlikely to have any in the near future.

I then scanned and emailed about 100 pages of maint receipts to the insurance company. They doubled what they originally offered me, which still wasn't a lot, but it was enough for me to patch it together, buy a new set of Michelins, and keep driving it for another 3 years. When I sold it with 360K on the odometer it still ran like a top, didn't use oil, and got 30mpg. In 360K miles I replaced a radiator, fuel injection relay, clutch slave cylinder, brakes, and did the scheduled maint. That's it. Original drivetrain (including clutch).

Did the same on the 01 4runner I had. Every maint receipt since new. Sold it for a little over market, and the buyer and I still chat from time to time. The maint records told him more about me than they did about the car. Someone who takes the time to record all of that will take the time to care for a vehicle.

Re: Here is my carfax report

Well this is kind of off-topic but its cold outside and i'm retired with nothing to do.
A good friend owns a small repair shop ,him and his brother sometimes. I eat lunch with him every week at least. I watch as the cars come into his shop and listen to the stories people tell. He ,by being an independent is not getting year old Lexas to work on.They are mostly peoples only transportation.
Now the reason for this post. He constantly tells his customers to bring their cars to him before they buy them.He will give them a check and tell them his opinion. He says they never do it, some slick salesman, or private owner BS's them and they think they are getting a good deal ,only to end up in his shop crying because they have no money to fix it with.
A woman bought a 2006 Terrain off a co-workers husband. He was a rep for a wholesale plumbing fixtures co. It had 216,000 miles on it. He insisted because it was hwy driven the miles didn't mean much. In 10,000 miles the bearings in the transfer case started making noise. Bearings are not servicable ,GM wants you to buy the whole unit. We ran around to try to match up bearing but no luck. Transfer case and installation was $2100. now another 5,000 miles and the rear differential is making noise. It will cost a little less but realisticly we know the front will probably need replacing next.
He told her he would have never advised her to buy that vehicle with those kind of miles. If she ends up having to replace the front she will have almost doubled her investment in that vehicle. And its got almost 250,000 miles on it.
Who knows what is going thru buyers minds when they shop.

Re: Here is my carfax report

I'll probably get flack for saying this, but those early 90s Accords were among the best cars ever made. I often wish I knew of a modern car with that kind of reliability.

The maint records told him more about me than they did about the car. Someone who takes the time to record all of that will take the time to care for a vehicle.

No flack here.....only thing I had an issue with was the door latch breaking....no replacements were ever made

Re: Here is my carfax report

Oh yeah. That car went through me and my teenage years. Speedometer went to 130 and it would do all of that and a little more. I probably taught a half dozen people how to drive a standard on that 5 speed (remember a girl driving it one night and I started smelling the clutch and looked up and she was driving with the clutch 1/2 way to the floor), drove it around like an indy car, and the engine, clutch, transmission, axles etc were all original and were never touched other than timing belts at 90 and 180 (I didn't do the 270 or 360 because I figured if I shelled out the money for a timing belt the clutch or some other expensive component would go, but it just kept plugging along). That car was bulletproof and the only reason I sold it was Dad had a 94 he bought new (same drivetrain, although the 93 body style was prettier IMO), and he got too old to get in and out of it, so he gave it to me in 2008 with 60K on it. It's got about 195K on it now, and I've only had to replace the clutch slave cylinder ($20). Hoping it will last me a LOOOONNNNNG time.

The wife likes new vehicles, and I've got two 85 CJ-7s, an 83 GMC, and a 94 Accord in the driveway. Drives her nuts.

Nice. At least the older stuff was easy to work on. If I get any new stuff not only do I get a payment, I get a bunch of computerized crap too. I'm a big fan of KISS, even if it's not as comfortable as modern products.

At 130 + that must have been the fastest Accord on the planet.
