Well seeing that I still cant get the bolt out to change axles, and I broke a $12 bolt removal tool in the hole I will be looking for the whole thing. wheels and all. Now the question s do I want to buy it new or grab one from the local pick a part. Anyone is southern cali now of a spot?

The Formula = Divide the big number by the small one and that's the gear ratio!

Hello all! I have a 1969 and I have not had a chance to check the rearend yet, but I read somewhere that this year truck was factory gear ratio of 3.73. with optional 3.08 or 4.11??? So does your glove box tag have an option for that gear ratio special ordered?

On the front or Yolk side of the axle there will be a squared hole pipe plug, use a ratchet to remove it. On level ground fill untill oil starts to come out the hole.

Another way to tell the ratio of the rear gears is by the code stamped on the passenger side tube of the rear end housing. The first picture shows the area of the housing where the code is stamped and the second picture is of the code number itself. When You have the code just use the first two or three letters ('67-'69 have two letters & '70-'72 have three) and look it up here in the axle codes section.

The letters TDE on this one tells me it is a 307:1 - 1/2 ton assembly

What you read, was misleading.
True, the BASE MODEL truck, came with a 3.73... however, that does not mean that the standard gear will alwaysbe 3.73.
There were trannys that would come with a 4.11, and other trannys that would get you 3.07 gears. (3.08 was a car gear)

Yes, if there is an optional gearset, then it would be listed, but, that doesn't mean you have 3.73's though.
What engine, and tranny did your 69 come with originally? (if no engine option listed, then it was a 307 for a CE truck, and a 250 for a CS truck)
