I had a large journal 327 block back in 1986 that I pulled from a '68 Impala. It also had a cartridge type filter. I converted to spin on, but should have left it alone. Those cartridge type filters have more filtering area than a spin on. I think '68 did still use those on some and '69 all got spin on.

maybe with the impala and trucks, but Chevelle/Camaro/Corvette and Nova were spin on 68. My 68 Camaro still has the original motor and its a spin on. I have yet to run across one of those cars with a cartridge when they have their original motors.
